Metellus is listed as a safety, but his actual usage hardly fits neatly into a single category. The majority of his snaps last season came in the box as a hybrid strong safety/box linebacker. That allows him to come close to matching the most prolific tacklers among defensive backs around the league. Metellus' other primary home is at slot corner, where he showed considerable improvement in coverage in 2024 when he allowed only one touchdown when targeted. The veteran safety dealt with the same foot injury late last week and logged a limited practice session Friday before suiting up Sunday, when he played every one of Minnesota's defensive snaps for the fifth straight week. Metellus' full participation Thursday suggests he should be good to for Week 10 versus Baltimore.

Metellus had established himself as a special teams ace throughout much of his rookie contract, but the arrival of defensive coordinator Brian Flores helped him reach new heights in his fourth season as a pro. He was used all over the field, playing significant snaps along the defensive line, inside the box, and as a slot corner. That gave him a unique ability to be on the hunt for big plays and contribute stats across the board, and he did just that by picking up 2.5 sacks, picking off a pass and forcing four fumbles. With Flores back with the team for a second season, Metellus should keep his role as a do-it-all defender that will bring plenty of fantasy production - even if it comes in an unconventional way.
