Gets little run to conclude 2019

January 7, 2020
Williams was active for nine games during the 2019 season, finishing with 49 carries for 235 yards and a touchdown while adding five receptions for 59 yards.
ANALYSIS
Williams' efficiency on the ground (4.8 yards per carry) and as a pass catcher (11.8 yards per reception) was impressive, but it wasn't enough for him to make much of a push up the depth chart over the final quarter of the season, when the Colts were at full strength in the backfield. In fact, a whopping 91.2 percent of Williams' total yards from scrimmage came in Weeks 11 and 12, when top back Marlon Mack was limited or withheld entirely due to a fractured right hand. Williams played just 18 snaps in the five games that followed, with Mack, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins all working ahead of him. All three of those backs are under contract through 2020, so Williams may be inclined to explore his options elsewhere once he becomes an unrestricted free agent in March.

Williams, who has logged just three carries over the past two seasons, will look to stick as a depth back with the Colts, though the 2016 fifth-rounder figures to face an uphill battle on that front, now that Spencer Ware has joined the team's running back corps.
Williams was expected to serve as LeSean McCoy's primary backup in Buffalo in 2017, but he was a surprise cut in early September. Before signing with the Saints last November, the bruising 6-0, 223-pound back spent nearly the entire season on the Broncos' practice squad. Entering his third NFL campaign, Williams is now looking for work after being a surprise cut by the Saints.
Mike Gillislee's defection to the Patriots and the Bills' decision not to draft another running back seemingly left the door open for Williams to be LeSean McCoy's primary backup in 2017, but he was let go by Buffalo in early September. The 5-11, 223-pound bruiser out of Arkansas saw limited duty as a rookie last year, mainly being used as a short-yardage option, but he has the skills to potentially be effective in any situation, as he showed surprising elusiveness and soft hands in college as well as the patience to let holes develop.
Williams earned a bit of playing time at the University of Arkansas as a true freshman, and then shared the backfield with Alex Collins in 2013 and 2014, with both players enjoying sustained success. Seemingly headed for the early to middle rounds, Williams missed his entire senior year with a foot injury, causing him to slip to the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He proved his health by running a 4.59 40-yard dash at his pro day - a solid time for a player listed at 6-0, 223 pounds. The Bills may have gotten a steal in the fifth round, but even if Williams has starter potential down the line, he'll likely open the season fourth on the depth chart, behind LeSean McCoy, Mike Gillislee and Reggie Bush.

Headed for decreased role
RBIndianapolis Colts
December 6, 2019
Coach Frank Reich suggested that Williams would be in line for a lesser role Sunday against the Buccaneers with lead running back Marlon Mack (hand) available to play, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports. "Not thinking a big pitch count," Reich said of Mack on Friday. "Even when he's humming, we don't hesitate to rotate those guys. We know Marlon's going to get the bulk of those carries. I'm anticipating that all four backs will dress. So it might be a little bit more of a rotation involved."
