2023 Fantasy Outlook

Robinson is the consensus RB1 of the 2023 rookie class and arrives to the NFL with a fantasy-friendly skill set. He has a workhorse build at 215-plus pounds, and with a 4.46-second 40 Robinson has the speed to create big plays at a standout frequency. Not just that, but Robinson appears adept as a pass catcher and could do more as an NFL receiver than he did at Texas. While Robinson's single-season high for receptions at Texas was just 26, there's reason to think that in the NFL Robinson could be a 60-catch candidate annually. It's not often that a running back prospect projects for volume, efficiency and versatility to the extent that Robinson does -- and his status as the eighth overall pick further confirms that. He does have decent competition for carries in Atlanta, but within the confines of a run-heavy offense and with the possibility of Cordarrelle Patterson being a cap casualty this summer. While 2022 fifth-round pick Tyler Allgeier figures to retain some sort of role after running for 1,000 yards as a rookie, Robinson is on a different level of talent and shouldn't need long to establish himself as the lead back. Robinson looks set to benefit from what should be an improved offense in his second NFL season after quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) agreed to a four-year, $180 million contract with Atlanta on Monday.

ANALYSIS
Robinson, the eighth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, fell just short of 1,000 rushing yards (976) as a rookie but showcased a three-down skill set, boosting his fantasy totals with a 58-487-4 receiving line. Cousins still needs to complete his recovery from Achilles surgery, but his steady hand under center should boost Robinson's prospects, and the Atlanta offense as a whole. The addition of Cousins should also yield a more multi-dimensional offense, as Robinson and fellow running back Tyler Allgeier faced eight-plus defenders in the box 20.6 and 30.7 percent of the time last season, respectively, with opposing defenses often keying in on the run while lesser quarterbacks in Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke were directing the Atlanta offense. Robinson will be a popular breakout candidate for the 2024 campaign, thanks to the tantalizing promise of an Atlanta offense finally being headlined by competent quarterback play.

One of the main tenets the new coach noted he'll subscribe to is ensuring all players have clarity of what their roles are within his system. Consequently, he emphasized he sees Bijan as a back first and foremost and notes the second-year pro's versatility could be maximized within the confines of his position as opposed to putting too much on his plate by asking him to also take on an extensive amount of responsibility as a receiver.
