Tyler Allgeier

26-Year-Old Running BackRB
Arizona Cardinals
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Allgeier was under the impression that the Cardinals gave him a two-year, $12.25 million contract to make them their starter, so safe to say he didn't expect Arizona to select Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love third overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Still, that draft pick might more so be a problem for James Conner and Trey Benson. Allgeier can remain the technical starter in Arizona and a fairly useful fantasy asset even after Love's arrival, both because the Cardinals look like they intend to call a run-heavy offense and because Love is not built for running between the tackles at volume. If the Cardinals commit to running the ball 30 times per week between Love and Allgeier then it might be Allgeier who takes the higher carry count, if only because he'll take the most physically challenging carries and won't take many targets in the passing game. Allgeier is a tank who can clobber between the tackles indefinitely, and the Cardinals offense needs to express that threat if they're going to have any prayer in 2026. The Cardinals can put 15-to-18 carries and one or two catches on Allgeier in a given game and still have 12-to-15 carries and four or five catches for Love. Particularly with Arizona's weak quarterback room, this run-heavy vision is exactly what the Cardinals should have in mind this year. At the very least, the GM will have a tough time selling both the Love pick and the Allgeier contract if new coach Matt LaFleur can't find a way to make both players productive. Read Past Outlooks

Allgeier rushed three times for seven yards and caught both of his targets for nine yards during Sunday's 45-21 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Allgeier was on the field for 32 offensive snaps, but he only had five touches in the contest. In comparison, rookie running back Jeremiyah Love turned 12 carries into 22 yards over his 34 offensive snaps in the defeat. Allgeier has rushed 35 times for 119 yards and a touchdown while reeling in all 12 of his targets for 44 yards over five contests this season, and he remains a valuable insurance policy for fantasy managers with Love on their roster.

2022
Allgeier is a capable starter and might one day have the chance to prove it, but in the meantime he's simply an overqualified backup to a top-five running back. The Falcons would love to nurse leads often enough to give both Allgeier and Bijan Robinson double-digit carries on a regular basis, but it hasn't typically played out that way, and Atlanta doesn't project as a top team this year. If Robinson were to miss any time, though, Allgeier can plug in and thrive as a starter. In fact, Allgeier was a starter for most of his 2022 rookie season, when he ran for 1,035 yards and three touchdowns on 210 carries (4.9 YPC). He'll never be the dangerous receiving threat Robinson is, but Allgeier is a competent blocker with good hands (88.7 percent career catch rate). What's more, Allgeier has yet to fumble in the NFL, making him quietly one of the league's most well-rounded running backs.
Allgeier drew the ire of Bijan Robinson fantasy investors in 2023, repeatedly poaching valuable usage from the exciting rookie, though Allgeier is a legitimate NFL running back in his own right. After all, Allgeier ran for over 1,000 yards as a rookie in 2022 at a clip of 4.9 yards per carry, comfortably exceeding expectations for a fifth-round pick. He's also done well for himself as a pass catcher when given the chance, bringing in 34 of 40 career targets for 332 yards (8.2 YPT) and two TDs. Despite the positives, Allgeier is a candidate to see his workload reduced for the second year in a row, with Robinson potentially taking on a larger share of the touches in an Atlanta offense that figures to run less often after jettisoning head coach Arthur Smith and adding QB Kirk Cousins. That will likely resign Allgeier to fantasy benches, even in deeper leagues, as an injury to Robinson now seems like the only realistic path to considerable volume/value.
Allgeier was an uncommon player at BYU: a power back who specialized in long touchdown runs. One might think he was a burner of some sort, or it would be difficult to explain how he kept running so far away from so many defenders. His 4.60 40 implied that his explosive collegiate production might have been a product of the scheme or the level of competition, but the fifth-round pick continued to make big plays as a rookie for Atlanta last year. Not only did Allgeier (5-11, 220) surpass 1,000 rushing yards, he did it with standout efficiency (4.9 YPC), buoyed by three carries of 40-plus. Producing 40-yard carries at that rate is something normally seen from the likes of Chubb, Taylor, Henry, Etienne, etc., so for Allgeier to be in that class at all is encouraging. The Falcons will remain run-heavy in 2023 under coach Arthur Smith, but Allgeier now shares the backfield with eighth overall pick Bijan Robinson, who presumably won't need long to claim more work than the likes of Cordarrelle Patterson and Caleb Huntley accounted for last year. It might take a Robinson injury for Allgeier to get enough work to be worthy of fantasy lineups.
Drafted in the fifth round this year, Allgeier lands in an ideal spot for significant touches, as Atlanta has only 31-year-old Cordarrelle Patterson and 30-year-old Damien Williams as experienced backfield options. Allgeier has the frame to handle a big workload and the vision to maximize the opportunities his offensive line provides, though Atlanta's O-line could be among the shakiest units in the league once again. The rookie isn't fast (4.60 40), even by the standards of a big back, and he caught only 42 passes in two full seasons as BYU's lead runner. Allgeier could earn a role on early downs — and maybe even at the goal line — but it'll be hard to punch in touchdowns on a regular basis if Atlanta's offense is among the league’s worst.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Week 6 spot start possible?
RBArizona Cardinals
October 14, 2026
Allgeier could end up drawing a Week 6 start against the Rams after Jeremiyah Love missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury and head coach Mike LaFleur admitted to uncertainty around the rookie's short-term availability, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Love is dealing with a lingering ankle injury that surfaced early in the regular season, and LaFleur noted Wednesday there was a consensus the rookie running back needed some time off his feet to try and allow it to heal properly. As a result, Wednesday's absence isn't likely to be the only time in coming days Love doesn't take the field, and if that also holds true Sunday, Allgeier will be in line to serve as the Cardinals' No. 1 back. The veteran offseason addition has seen some complementary usage over the first five games, recording 35 rush attempts and 12 receptions on his way to 163 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown.
