Brooks had 17 carries for 78 yards during the 2025 regular season, including 13 carries for 63 yards in his team's regular-season finale against the Colts, when the Texans were resting their starters ahead of the playoffs. Houston signed David Montgomery to lead its rushing attack in 2026, while Woody Marks and Jawhar Jordan are likely to remain ahead of Brooks in the pecking order as well. Brooks' role will likely come on special teams, but it's still noteworthy that he's part of a backfield mix that suddenly has a potential path to playing time on offense through at least the first four weeks. Brooks would likely need to leapfrog at least one or two of Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks and Dare Ogunbowale to play snaps on offense, but none of those players had more than 332 rushing yards at the NFL level in the 2024 regular season.
