2023 Fantasy Outlook
Austin topped 1,000 yards in his final two collegiate seasons at Memphis in 2020 and 2021, but he sustained a foot injury during training camp in August and began the year on injured reserve. The fourth-round pick returned to practice in early October but wasn't activated from IR. He's expected to be healthy heading into 2023 but will have additional competition for targets after the Steelers acquired Allen Robinson during the offseason. Austin was productive in college but could have trouble landing a fantasy-relevant role this year due to the deep receiving corps in Pittsburgh. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Held in check in 2023
Austin secured 17 of 30 targets for 180 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 57 yards and a touchdown over 17 games in 2023.
ANALYSIS
Austin had a relatively solid start to the season with double-digit receiving yards in each of the first four games, but he logged single-digit receiving yards in 11 of the final 13 weeks of the year and was held without a catch in five consecutive games to close out the regular season. The 24-year-old missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury, so it was encouraging to see him appear in every game in 2023. However, he'll need to get more involved in the passing game if he hopes to be a fantasy-relevant option.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely in for expanded role
Austin is projected to see his role expand in the wake of what could be a multi-game absence for Diontae Johnson due to a Week 1 hamstring injury, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The fleet second-year wideout turned some heads in training camp and preseason after missing his 2022 rookie campaign with a foot injury, and he then recorded six receptions for 37 yards over 34 snaps from scrimmage in Week 1 against the 49ers partly as a result of Johnson's early exit due to his injury. Austin could have a more sizable downfield role beginning in Week 2 against the Browns, and despite his 162-pound frame, it's worth noting he recorded a pair of 1,000-yard seasons during his college days at Memphis and averaged 16.3 yards per catch in his last three campaigns overall.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
While the Steelers selected George Pickens in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Austin was a fourth-round selection by the team after topping 1,000 receiving yards in his final two collegiate seasons at Memphis. The 23-year-old impressed with a 4.32-second time in the 40-yard dash at the combine, and his speed should allow him to compete for a role with the Steelers as a rookie. While Diontae Johhnson, Chase Claypool and Pickens should be ahead of Austin on the depth chart heading into the season, the Memphis product could have a chance to compete for targets in Pittsburgh's pass-heavy offense if/when injuries hit.
