2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Patriots drafted Ryland in the fourth round last year and then stuck with him through a disastrous rookie campaign. He led the league in missed field goals (nine) despite ranking t-27th in attempts (25), with the only semi-positive being decent work on PATs (24 of 25). Ryland went two of four from 50-plus yards and five of 10 from 40-49 yards, also missing two kicks inside of 40. The Patriots likely will bring in some competition before training camp, and even if they don't, Ryland doesn't figure to offer much fantasy value as part of a rebuilding team that will start either Jacoby Brissett or a rookie at quarterback. Cut by New England
The Patriots will waive Ryland on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2023 fourth-round selection had been competing with Joey Slye, but Ryland is now headed to the waiver wire after handling New England's kicking duties last season. If Ryland goes unclaimed, he could rejoin the Patriots as a member of the practice squad.

Week 2 of the NFL Preseason kicks off Thursday night, and Sasha Yodashkin likes Joe Milton as the Patriots host the Eagles.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Patriots already had an accurate, veteran kicker in Nick Folk, but that didn't stop them from using a fourth-round pick on Ryland, who presumably will allow the team to try more long-distance kicks. Ryland made 77.3 percent of FGAs and 97.3 percent of PATs in five seasons between Eastern Michigan and Maryland, with a strong upward trend after struggling his first two years. The Patriots ended up trading Folk to Tennessee at the end of August, locking in Ryland as their Week 1 kicker.

Facing camp battle for job
Ryland will be in an open competition with veteran Joey Slye for the Patriots' kicking job, Paul Perillo of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 Draft as the second kicker to be taken after the 49ers' Jake Moody, but the Maryland product had a rough rookie season that included him making only 50 percent of his field-goal attempts from 40 yards or longer. Slye spent the last two-plus seasons with Washington and made 84.8 percent of his field-goal attempts, including eight of 12 from 50 yards or longer, so he represents a significant threat to Ryland's spot.
