2024 Fantasy Outlook
After two very productive seasons, Patterson's numbers dried up in 2023 after Bijan Robinson joined the Falcons' backfield, but that may not have been the sole reason his numbers cratered. Patterson turned 33 years old in March, and his 3.6 yards per carry last year might be a sign he's lost a step. The Steelers signed him to a two-year contract soon after his birthday, but they might be planning to use Patterson mainly as a kick returner rather than have him challenge Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren for touches out of the backfield. RANKS
Two carries in Week 2
Patterson carried the ball twice for three yards during Sunday's 13-6 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Patterson played just four offensive snaps, down from the nine he saw during the season opener. Despite his limited playing time, he's seen multiple carries in each of the first two games of the season. However, Patterson is unlikely to be relevant in most fantasy formats as long as Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren are healthy.

Patterson is overqualified as the projected RB3 for Atlanta behind rookie Bijan Robinson and second-year pro Tyler Allgeier. He was effective as a runner the past two years with the Falcons, turning 297 carries into 1,313 yards and 14 touchdowns (4.4 YPC) in 29 games. The 32-year-old began his career at receiver for a reason, though -- he's a big target with with an upright running style. Patterson is an all-time menace in the open field, which his incredible career kick returner production (29.5 YPR, nine touchdowns) also attests, but springing him from between the tackles is sometimes easier said than done. He'll likely end up in a backup role or timeshare even if the Falcons trade or release him, which is possible given the team's stout backfield depth and the $4.25 million in cap space it would free up.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May have role in offense
Patterson may receive offensive snaps with the Steelers in 2024, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Patterson's most obvious impact will come as a kick returner given the revamped kickoff roles for the new season. However, Kaboly points to the Steelers' financial commitment to Patterson -- $6 million across two years -- to suggest that Patterson won't be limited to just being a specialist. Even if that's the case, Pittsburgh's offense is likely to be powered by the run game, so there should still be plenty of work for both Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.
