D.J. Reed

27-Year-Old CornerbackCB
New York Jets
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Reed has been remarkably consistent over the last three years, spanning his last season in Seattle and the first two seasons of his three-year contract with the Jets. The 27-year-old cornerback has posted 9-12 passes defensed and 76-80 tackles in each of those three seasons. Reed has developed into an excellent cover corner opposite Sauce Gardner, and their strong play on the outside coupled with Michael Carter's effectiveness in the slot has helped the Jets allow the fewest yards to wide receivers in each of the past two seasons. Reed finished the 2023 season with 76 tackles (62 solo) and one interception among his nine passes defensed in 15 games.
ANALYSIS
Sauce Gardner, Reed and nickel cornerback Michael Carter formed the league's stingiest cornerback trio. Reed is the senior member of that group at age 27, and he has been remarkably consistent, posting between 76 and 80 tackles and between nine and 12 passes defensed in each of his last three seasons. All three cornerbacks are projected to be back in 2024, with Reed entering the final year of his contract with the Jets.

No extension talks
CBNew York Jets
June 17, 2024
Reed has yet to have any contract extension talks with the Jets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran cornerback is heading into the final season of the three-year deal he signed in 2022, and while an extension would lower his salary cap hit, the team has yet to begin talks with Reed. "I signed a three-year deal, so I expect to play three years and go into free agency," he said last week. Reed has recorded at least 76 tackles and nine passes defended in three straight seasons and has been a strong complement to Sauce Gardner in the Jets secondary.

2021
Reed and 2022 Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner formed the NFL's most formidable cornerback duo last season, as the Jets allowed the fewest yards in the league to wide receivers. For his part, Reed had 12 passes defensed and one interception, along with 80 tackles (63 solo). The passes defensed and tackle totals both marked career highs for the 26-year-old cornerback. Reed may be even busier in 2023 if Gardner improves further and quarterbacks become more reluctant to throw at the young star.
Reed is expected to start on the outside opposite rookie fourth overall pick Ahmad Gardner after signing a three-year, $33 million contract with the Jets as a free agent. The 28-year-old cornerback had 78 tackles (62 solo), two interceptions and 10 passes defensed for Seattle last season.
Reed came off the non-football injury list and took over as the Seahawks' starting right cornerback Week 8 of last season because both Quinton Dunbar and Tre Flowers were dealing with injuries. Even when those two got healthy, Reed held down the job. The 24-year-old let up a 75.8 passer rating in coverage and finished with 62 tackles, seven pass defenses and two interceptions across 10 games. With Shaquill Griffin now in Jacksonville, Reed has a chance to become the Seahawks' top corner. At the very least, Reed is in line for a full-time role on defense.
