2024 Fantasy Outlook
Brooks was the first running back selected in the 2024 NFL Draft (46th overall), and with such a substantial investment the Panthers clearly expect him to become a starter at some point. The question is whether that time is already here or if it might more so be in 2025, considering Brooks is returning from a Nov. 11 ACL tear and is one of the youngest players from his draft class (21 in July). Between the injury recovery and the potential need for development time, Brooks is no sure thing to displace incumbent starter Chuba Hubbard, who ran for more yardage and touchdowns in a 13-game span at Oklahoma State than Brooks did over his entire three-year career at Texas. While he hasn't been as successful as a professional, Hubbard isn't exactly a pushover, coming off a 2023 season with 1,135 yards from scrimmage in an offense that ranked 31st in scoring and 32nd in points. Pass-catching skill is where Brooks figures to have an immediate advantage, potentially opening up a significant role even if the Panthers keep Hubbard occupied as their lead runner. Of course, both backs will be somewhat dependent on QB Bryce Young rebounding from a dreadful rookie year under new coach Dave Canales, who at least has the help of veteran offseason additions like WR Diontae Johnson, LG Damien Lewis and RG Robert Hunt. RANKS
Out for at least four games
Brooks (knee) will start the regular season on the non-football injury list and miss at least the first four games, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooks tore his ACL while playing football but is eligible for the NFI list because the injury occurred during a college game last November before the start of his NFL career. The Panthers made him the first running back taken in the 2024 NFL Draft anyway, 46th overall, undeterred by a lack of athletic testing or the possibility he'd miss games at the start of his pro career. Brooks has been on the NFI list all summer, leaving Chuba Hubbard temporarily unchallenged as Carolina's No. 1 running back. Miles Sanders could also get some carries early in the season, but Hubbard is a safe bet to make starts and lead the backfield in touches until Brooks is ready to make his NFL debut.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely headed for PUP list
Brooks is expected to begin the season on the reserve/PUP list, which would delay his NFL debut until at least Week 5, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Texas product was the first running back selected in the 2024 Draft, going 46th overall, but Brooks has yet to begin practicing as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL suffered last November. If he isn't available for the start of the regular season, Chuba Hubbard would remain the Panthers' starter for at least one more month.
