2025 Fantasy Outlook
Blackmon is coming off the two most productive seasons of his career, totaling 174 tackles and 12 pass defenses, including seven interceptions, during his final two years in Indianapolis. The 27-year-old also played all but three regular-season games over that span. He inked a one-year contract with the Saints shortly after starting free safety Tyrann Mathieu retired in late July. Blackmon and strong safety Justin Reid, who also joined New Orleans this offseason, should form a solid starting duo on the back end of the defense this season. Read Past Outlooks

September 10, 2025
Blackmon will undergo surgery to address the shoulder injury he suffered during Sunday's 20-13 loss versus the Cardinals, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was feared to have suffered a torn labrum after he left New Orleans' regular-season debut early, and now it looks like he'll miss extended time as he recovers. In his absence, rookie third-rounder Jonas Sanker becomes a candidate to start at safety next to Justin Reid.

Blackmon tallied career-high marks across the board last season, emerging as one of the more dependable players in the Indianapolis secondary. He racked up 88 tackles (65 solo), eight passes defensed with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 15 games. Blackmon missed the last two games of the year due to a shoulder injury, but was back to full speed in spring workouts. He's set to start at strong safety.
Blackmon, who had 50 tackles and an interception last season, has been adept as a tackler and has held his own in coverage but has had trouble staying on the field over the last two campaigns. The 2020 third-rounder was limited to six games in 2021 due to an Achilles injury and this past season he missed three games and parts of another due to an ankle injury. He'll reprise his role as a starting safety for the Colts in 2023.
Blackmon emerged as a key piece in the secondary with 34 tackles (27 solo), a pass breakup and a forced fumble through the team's first six contests. However, he suffered a torn Achilles after Week 7 and missed the rest of the season. He should return as the starting free safety if he proves he's healthy in training camp.
Blackmon took over at starting free safety after Malik Hooker was hurt early last season and was a steady presence in the secondary. He showed promise against the pass by allowing just a 40.2 passer rating against, according to Pro Football Focus, and by grabbing two interceptions. He didn't rush the passer all season, so he's not used in blitz packages. However, he could be a steady source of tackles.
Blackmon (6-foot-1, 187 pounds) suffered an ACL tear in December, so the Colts' investment of a third-round pick represents a considerable vote of confidence. Blackmon is a former corner who's particularly noted for his coverage skills after standing out in Utah's dominant defense. While his rookie-year impact might be muted due to his recovery, the Colts are clearly fond of Blackmon as a long-term prospect.

Could be done for season
SNew Orleans Saints
September 8, 2025
Blackmon may have suffered a torn labrum in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals that will require season-ending surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It would be a brutal blow for the veteran safety, who underwent surgery back in January on the same shoulder after playing through a labrum issue in 2024. If Blackmon does need to go under the knife again, 2025 third-round pick Jonas Sanker might need to step up more quickly than expected in the Saints' secondary after being used exclusively on special teams in Week 1.
