2025 Fantasy Outlook
Fields stared six games for the Steelers last season, but hit the bench once Russell Wilson got healthy. He wasn’t much better than he was in the previous three years in Chicago. Sure, his completion percentage was a career-high 65.8 (20th among 43 QBs with at least 160 attempts), but his on-target percentage increased only minimally while his average target depth was a career-low 7.7 yards -- he completed more passes thanks to shorter attempts (a career-high 68.3 percent went less than 10 yards). He still has his legs, though. Fields ranked eighth among QBs with 28.9 rush yards per game and scored five touchdowns. A full season at that rate would have him pushing 500 yards. The expectation of the Jets, who gave Fields a two-year, $40 million deal to be the starter, is for much more than that. Fields has target-hog Garrett Wilson as a legit No. 1 WR, but Wilson’s high-volume role since 2022 (469 targets, 3rd in NFL) is partly the result of a lack of options. That’s the case again with the uninspiring Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds rounding out the top-3 wideouts, though second-round pick Mason Taylor offers upside at tight end. The gameplan could be more dynamic with new OC Tanner Engstrand, formerly the Lions' pass game coordinator, but the offense will run through RB Breece Hall, which likely caps Fields' pass attempts. Still, his elite rushing production is enough for two-QB leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Will start in 2025
Jets GM Darren Mougey said Sunday that Fields will be the team's starter heading into the 2025 season, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Fields joined the Jets on a two-year, $40 million contract March 10 after the team moved on from starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. It was widely assumed that the 26-year-old Fields would fill the hole at starting quarterback, so Mougey's comments don't come as much of a surprise; however, the general manager added that incumbent backup Tyrod Taylor will be "on his heels," per Costello. Mougey also said that the team is hoping for Fields to pull off a turnaround similar to a pair of other high first-round draft picks who found success with a different team than the one that drafted them, citing Sam Darnold with the Vikings last year and Baker Mayfield with the Buccaneers, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Fields performed relatively well after being traded from the Bears to the Steelers last offseason. In 10 regular-season appearances with six starts, he completed a career-high 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception to go along with 62 carries for 289 yards and five TDs. The Jets' offensive skill players are headlined by a pair of standouts with wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall, but the team lacks in offensive depth and overall infrastructure.

Armed with the first pick in this year’s draft, the Bears cut bait on Fields, the 11th overall pick from 2021, and traded him to the Steelers for a mere sixth-rounder. Fields is expected to back up Russell Wilson, though the team hasn't given any guarantees for the Week 1 starting job, with coach Mike Tomlin only saying that Wilson has "pole position." The biggest problem for Fields is that his accuracy has not improved much through three years. Last season, he ranked 28th in the league in on-target percentage (68.1) and 29th in completion percentage (61.4). His downfield passing, though, greatly improved (thank you, DJ Moore). Not only did Fields look downfield often -- his average target depth was 8.0 yards (11th), throwing deep on 14.3 percent of attempts (2nd) -- he was on target with 51.9 percent of his attempts of 20-plus yards (11th) with seven TDs and two INTs. Those are better numbers than Wilson’s, by the way. Fields’ fantasy value, though, is built on rushing. Despite missing four and a half games with a thumb injury, he was second among QBs with 657 rushing yards and ran for four scores. Fields finished as QB6 the year prior and has more potential fantasy value than Wilson, but the 25-year-old might not get the chance to show it in 2024, the final season of his rookie contract.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
No worries about rookie competition
Fields stated Wednesday he's not concerned about the possibility the Jets select a quarterback in this month's NFL Draft, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
When asked about whether New York bringing in rookie competition concerned him, Fields noted he didn't "like to answer rhetorical questions" but added he is willing to teach any young player. Fields was signed to a two-year, $40 million contract as a free agent this offseason and stated he was optimistic both he and new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn had the experience to help turn around the team after a poor season.
