                2025 Fantasy Outlook

McCaffrey had every chance to make his mark as a third-round rookie last year, but his early playing time never translated to production, and eventually the snaps dried up as well - he took just 37 snaps on offense in three playoff games. His prospects for a larger role in 2025 don't look great after the Commanders traded for Deebo Samuel and spent a fourth-round pick on Jaylin Lane, both of whom are candidates for slot work. McCaffrey may even have to battle for a roster spot this summer, having yet to live up to the family name (his brother is Christian, and his father Ed). Serves as No. 3 wideout in Week 8
McCaffrey recorded three receptions for 24 yards on three targets in Monday's 28-7 loss to the Chiefs. He also returned one kickoff for 37 yards.
				ANALYSIS
Though Deebo Samuel (heel) and Terry McLaurin (quadriceps) returned from one- and four-game absences, respectively, McCaffrey actually saw his playing time pick up Monday. He had seen his snap shares hover between 30 and 45 percent over the previous three weeks, but McCaffrey ended up playing 27 of 53 offensive snaps (51 percent) against Kansas City, placing him second among Washington wideouts behind only Samuel. McLaurin's playing time was suppressed after he appeared to aggravate his quad injury during the second half, so if he's unable to play in Sunday's game against the Seahawks, the Commanders could once again look to McCaffrey to handle an expanded role at receiver.

How does the Seahawks pass defense compare to other NFL teams this season?

The bars represents the team's percentile rank (based on QB Rating Against). The longer the bar, the better their pass defense is. The team and position group ratings only include players that are currently on the roster and not on injured reserve. The list of players in the table only includes defenders with at least 3 attempts against them.

Recruited to Nebraska as a quarterback, McCaffrey transferred to Rice in 2021, converted to wide receiver in 2022 and then did enough over the next two seasons to become a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It was a bit of a surprise to see him go that early, though perhaps it shouldn't have been in light of his first-rate NFL bloodlines (Ed's son and Christian's brother). After catching 129 passes for 1,715 yards and 19 TDs over the past two seasons, McCaffrey heads to the NFL as a 23-year-old rookie on a team with poor WR depth behind Terry McLaurin. McCaffrey's numbers from the combine - including a 4.46 40 at 6-2, 196 pounds - suggest his athleticism is at least adequate for an NFL wideout, so he won't automatically be limited to the slot. That might be his best shot at Year 1 playing time, however, especially after the Commanders traded Jahan Dotson to Philadelphia in August.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
    Another chance for more targets
McCaffrey is in line for an elevated role against the Bears on Monday due to the absences of fellow wideouts Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
				ANALYSIS
The Commanders could also be without Deebo Samuel, who did not practice all week while tending to a heel injury. McCaffrey has not seen more than three targets in each of the first five games of the regular season, though his snap count on offense has increased over the last three weeks, during which he accumulated six catches on eight targets for 127 yards and two touchdowns. His role in the offense would grow even further if Samuel is sidelined, which would leave McCaffrey, veteran Chris Moore and rookie fourth-rounder Jaylin Lane as the Commanders' only three wide receivers signed to the active roster heading into Monday's tilt.
