July 24, 2023
Peters agreed to a one-year deal with the Raiders on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Peters appeared in 27 games over the last two seasons for Baltimore, totaling 99 tackles, 15 pass defenses, five interceptions, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two sacks. The veteran hasn't played a full regular season since 2018, but when healthy, he can be as productive as any cornerback in the league. Despite being added right before training camp, Peters should still be Las Vegas' top cornerback in 2023.

Known to take risks with his coverage, Peters had a year with some highs and lows in 2020, recording four interceptions but also allowing four touchdowns in his coverage, along with the second-most yards (509) he has surrendered in his career since that data was tracked. Playing opposite Marlon Humphrey will drive targets in Peters' direction, which means more of the same can be expected from Peters in 2021. He's entering his age-28 season and is still among the best cover corners in the game who has ball-hawking tendencies, but his risk-taking can get him burned at times and he isn't a reliable source of tackles for IDP purposes.
Peters brought his playmaking ways to Baltimore last year after being dealt from the Rams in October and held down the right cornerback spot for the rest of the season. He tied for the team lead in interceptions and two of those picks went for touchdowns. Peters is a risk-taker at corner, and that can occasionally get him into trouble, but it's that same mentality that has fueled his six interceptions for touchdowns since he entered the league in 2015, which ranks first in the NFL in that time frame. He and Marlon Humphrey combine to make one of the better cornerback duos in the NFL and Peters is entrenched as the starting right corner once again in 2020.
It was a difficult initial adjustment for Peters during his first year with the Rams, but a defensive shift to limit the amount of man-to-man coverage he played was a notable schematic change in the second half of the season. It's no coincidence that his improved play aligned with Aqib Talib returning from injury Week 13, either. Peters is in the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, so the stakes are high, and it wouldn't be surprising if he turned in a bounce-back campaign for the Rams in 2019.
A surprise trade to the Rams this offseason was one of many moves that brought a marquee defensive talent to Los Angeles, and Peters now finds himself as a leader in one of the league's most imposing defenses. No player of any position has more interceptions (19) or pass breakups (55) than he has since Peters entered the league in 2015, and there's no reason to think the Washington product can't keep racking up the stats in his new locale while playing opposite the talented Aqib Talib. Along with Peters, Talib's offseason arrival gives the Rams both of the two 2016 first-team All-Pro selections at cornerback. With Lamarcus Joyner providing help at free safety, the Los Angeles secondary will be a problem for many offenses in 2018, and Peters' production could be one of the biggest beneficiaries. It only helps that Rams' world-class defensive line will be giving opposing quarterbacks little time to throw.
The ball-hawking corner seemed destined for some drop-off a year after taking the league by storm as a rookie, but he certainly didn't go through a sophomore slump. Teams surely began looking the other way more frequently, but that didn't stop Peters from racking up another six interceptions in 2017. He added a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and 45 tackles (35 solo) to his IDP ledger last season, keeping him on the fantasy radar in leagues that incorporate individual defensive statistics. There's no reason to believe there will be a big dip in production this year as he attempts to solidify his status as one of the NFL's elite corners.
Peters posted a monstrous 2015 campaign, displaying ball skills (eight interceptions, two for touchdowns) and a willingness to assist in the running game (60 tackles). Given the Chiefs’ lack of depth at his position, it wouldn’t be surprising if the second-year cornerback sees fewer passes thrown his direction in 2016.
Peters was selected by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. His attitude has much more question to it than his skills, and he'll enter training camp looking to unseat Phillip Gaines for a starting spot alongside Sean Smith in 2015.
