2025 Fantasy Outlook
Metchie was on the outside looking in at the talented wideouts ahead of him on the depth chart in 2024. He managed just 37 targets (24 catches) over 13 games, picking up scraps that didn't go to Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs or Tank Dell. Metchie faces a similar fate in 2025, even with Diggs gone and Dell expected to miss the season with a knee injury. Houston added several wideouts from outside the organization, and Metchie along with fellow returnee Xavier Hutchinson fighting for a depth spot behind Collins, Christian Kirk and second-round draft pick Jayden Higgins. ANALYSIS
In exchange, the Texans will acquire tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick while also sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to Houston, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Metchie has played a rotational role in Houston's offense since missing his entire rookie campaign due to illness. The 2022 second-round pick caught 24 of 37 targets for 254 yards over 13 regular-season games last year, and it looked like he was in line to open the regular season as Houston's No. 3 wide receiver, as there's still no timetable on when wideout Tank Dell will return after suffering a significant knee injury last December. Instead, his departure should open up more opportunities for the Texans' rookie wideouts, second-rounder Jayden Higgins and third-rounder Jaylin Noel. Meanwhile, Metchie likely will compete with Johnny Wilson for a role behind returning wideouts A.J. Brown (hamstring), DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson in Philadelphia.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Metchie missed the 2022 season while dealing with health issues. Upon his return in 2023, the receiver was a minor part of the Texans offense. On the season, he averaged one catch for 9.9 yards while not scoring a touchdown. It seemed as if Metchie had an opportunity to seize a larger role. During the season, Houston had to play without Tank Dell and Noah Brown for extended periods while Nico Collins and Robert Woods also missed time. However, Metchie played fewer than 20 snaps in 10 games. After the Texans acquired Stefon Diggs, Metchie will battle for a depth role.
Metchie, a second-round pick out of Alabama in 2022, never got on the field after being diagnosed with leukemia last summer. The 22-year-old overcame the illness and participated in a voluntary late-April camp in preparation for normal offseason activities and training camp. With Brandin Cooks traded and Nico Collins still needing to prove himself, there's an opportunity for Metchie and the team's other young wideouts to see ample playing time. Metchie was expected to be a significant part of the offense last season, but there are no guarantees for 2023, particularly with a new offensive brain trust in place.
Metchie landed in the right place to get snaps and targets, but he's expected to miss his rookie season after being diagnosed with leukemia in July. On top of that, he's coming back from the ACL tear that ended his college career Dec. 4. Prior to that, he had 2,058 yards and 14 TDs in his final two seasons at Alabama. Despite playing two fewer games than first-round pick Jameson Williams last year, Metchie finished with 15 more targets than his admittedly more-explosive teammate (Williams had 430 more yards than Metchie nonetheless). The Texans took Metchie at No. 44 overall, and he could be in the mix for a starting job next year if everything goes well with his leukemia treatment, as expected.

Multiple teams interested
WRHouston Texans
August 26, 2024
Metchie has been the subject of trade inquiries from multiple teams, but it's not clear if the Texans are looking to move him, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2022 second-round pick sat out his entire rookie season while fighting leukemia, then saw a minimal role in 2023 once he was cleared to return to the field. Metchie's standing in the Texans' receiver room dropped further when the team traded for Stefon Diggs in April, so a fresh start could only help him. It's not clear which other teams have reached out to Houston about a possible trade.
