Sunday brought a quick fix for anyone frustrated by the lack of points (fantasy or otherwise) in NFL box scores during Week 1. The second week of the season has been much higher-scoring, highlighted by the 40-37 overtime thriller in Dallas.

With two games still to go, Week 2 has already featured 16 more TD passes (and five more INTs) than Week 1, with YPA improving from 6.7 to 7.3. The one thing way down compared to Week 1 was QB rushing production, which meant pass catchers ultimately were the big Week 1 winners. Some regression to the mean was inevitable after a brutal opening slate for WRs in general, but Week 2 went beyond that, led by massive performances from some of the biggest names.

As things stand, we're on track for the highest-scoring NFL week (52.1 points per game) since 2020, the historically high-scoring season played in front of mostly empty stadiums. Yardage numbers for Week 2, on the other hand, are merely on the high side of normal, nowhere near outlier status like the points. The mark of 679.3 net yards per game for Week 2 so far is only a slight tick above last year's average of 674.8.

Stat Table Key

Week 2 stats (first six columns)

  • Snap = % of team snaps that player was on the field for
  • Route = route share (routes run / QB dropbacks)
  • RUSHING = rushing line
  • RECEIVE = receiving line
  • Tgt = targets
  • AY = Air Yards

2025 Season Stats (final five columns)

  • Sn'25 = snap share for the season
  • Rt'25 = route share for the season
  • TPRR = Targets per Route Run
  • T Sh = Percentage of team's targets
  • AYS = Percentage of team's air yards

The final five columns of each stat table below (written in italics) show numbers for the entire season. Bold lettering denotes especially strong marks relative to positional standards. Green lettering for the weekly stats denotes considerable increases in playing time and/or usage relative to past weeks. Red lettering denotes the opposite a decreased role relative to prior games.

If you're looking for target and air-yard shares that only include active games, you can find those updated every Tuesday on RotoWire's advanced receiving stats page

  • RB Austin Ekeler suffered an Achilles tear with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
    • Ekeler's absence could inspire the Commanders to bring in help from outside the organization. If not, it'll mean more snaps/touches for some combination of RBs Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez, plus WR Deebo Samuel.
      • Samuel is a not-so-sneaky candidate to benefit here, as the Commanders don't have a running back that can really replicate what Ekeler does in the passing game, which could mean fewer targets (and even carries) for the entire RB unit and more touches going to other positions. We could even see Samuel get some snaps as the lone "RB" on the field, like he did at times back in San Francisco when the backfield was thinned out by injuries.
  • RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt got just 21% of snaps and five of the 17 RB opportunities, including only four of 12 RB carries (Ekeler took the other eight). Still, the rookie may have a big opportunity ahead, even if McNichols is likely to take a lot of Ekeler's passing-down snaps.
    • Ekeler took 64% of snaps pre-injury, with JCM at 27% and McNichols just 7%.
      • After the injury, Croskey-Merritt didn't get a single snap, with McNichols instead handling 11 of 12 plays. Granted, that's hurry-up mode at the end of a two-score loss.
  • QB Jayden Daniels played the entire game but underwent an MRI afterward and was diagnosed with a knee sprain, per Ian Rapoport.
  • WR Deebo Samuel rebounded from a slow first half and put up a bunch of fantasy points as part of the too-late comeback effort. He didn't get any carries but finished with 7-44-1 on eight targets.
    • Samuel has scored 40.1 PPR points through two weeks, with team-high 26.1% target share but only 14.1% of the air yards.
  • WR Terry McLaurin fared better than Week 1 for fantasy but managed just 48 yards on a team-high nine targets. He's started slow, with 18.8% target share, but he still easily leads the team in air yards (33.5%, nobody else has even 20%).
    • Better days are ahead for McLaurin, and the Ekeler injury opens up more room for McLaurin and Samuel to thrive simultaneously.
    • On a less promising note... eight of McLaurin's 13 targets have come on hitch routes. Those also accounted for more of his targets than any other route last year, but only by a narrow margin (27-25) over go routes.
      • The 27 targets on hitches last year produced 24-230-0, good for 1.74 PPR points per target. The 25 go balls produced 11-350-6, or 3.24 PPR points per target.
        • He's 0-for-3 on go balls so far this year, however.
  • WR Noah Brown (groin) missed the fourth quarter, allowing rookie Jaylin Lane to take 83% of snaps in the final frame (Samuel got 91%, and McLaurin took 87%).
    • Lane is a YAC threat with 4.34 speed who got carries and return work in college. He could also help replace Ekeler, in a sense.
  • TE John Bates (groin) left after just nine snaps. The Commanders still don't trust Ben Sinnott, which meant Zach Ertz played 89% of his snaps, his fourth-largest share in 20 games with the team.

  • WR Jayden Reed suffered a collarbone fracture while making a difficult TD catch that was wiped out by a penalty.
    • Reed will miss at least 6-8 weeks, making him droppable in shallow/medium-sized fantasy leagues for managers that don't have an IR spot available.
      • The silver lining for Green Bay? Reed can rest his foot, after playing through a Jones fracture Weeks 1-2.
  • RB Josh Jacobs accounted for all 23 RB carries on 78 percent snap share. He wasn't targeted but ran 14 routes (42%), whereas Chris Brooks got five targets on just eight routes (24%).
    • Jacobs took 87% of snaps on first/second down and 44% on third down, though Brooks got six of the 10 plays on 3rd-and-4+.
      • Jacobs and Brooks have been splitting the snaps in passing situations, but the Packers haven't been in many of those, and it was still Jacobs handling the two-minute drill before halftime last Thursday.
  • TE Tucker Kraft broke free for a 57-yard gain early and scored an eight-yard TD (his second of the season) later in the game.
    • Kraft led the GB skill-position players in snaps for a second straight week, and this time he also had the largest route share (79%), most targets (seven) and best receiving line.
    • The Packers haven't had to throw that much, but Kraft's workload shares are strong, ranking fifth among TEs for target share (22.4%) and sixth in air yards (98) through two weeks.
  • WRs Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and Matthew Golden all landed between 64-76% route share and 57-71% route share.
    • The only positive for Golden so far has been a few deep shots, including one Thursday night that would've been a long TD on fourth down if Jordan Love hadn't underthrown it horribly. Still, Golden's usage so far is highly discouraging, with 10% TPRR and 64% route share.
    • Malik Heath (35% snaps, 21%) and Savion Williams (16% snaps, 12% routes) also played some, and the Packers used multiple TEs on about half of their snaps.
  • The Packers used 11 personnel on 51% of snaps, up from 36% in Week 1, but still way below Matt LaFleur's norms in Green Bay. Game script has been a factor, but the Packers often used 11 personnel well over half the time in blowout wins in past seasons.
    • Yet another factor working against the WRs having fantasy value this year, even with Reed's injury. Keep in mind that Christian Watson (knee) should be back in October, with a one-year contract extension in hand.
  • The anecdote below is especially interesting because LaFleur's Packers had consistently high pass rates in scoring range under Aaron Rodgers and then through the first year of the Jordan Love era. But they've done a complete 180 and now hammer Jacobs near the goal line in a way that basically no other team does with its RB. Slow week and all, Jacobs looks like a solid RB1 again.

  • RBs Travis Etienne and Bhayshul Tuten each scored receiving TDs, although LeQuint Allen again took some of the work in obvious passing situations, with Etienne as the clear lead on early downs.
    • Etienne took 66% of snaps, 14 of 24 RB carries (58%) and 17 of 29 RB opportunities (59%), right in line with his role from Week 1, which seemingly makes him a solid RB2 start in fantasy for the time being. It obviously helps that he's been highly efficient so far, seemingly loving life in Liam Coen's scheme (unfortunately for Jacksonville, the passing game has been far less impressive).
    • Etienne got 79% of snaps on first and second down, with Bhayshul Tuten taking 30% (the Jags used some two-back looks). Allen got no playing time on first/second down, but he handled 11 of 14 snaps (79%) on third/fourth down.
  • WR Brian Thomas had an awful game, despite easily leading the team in targets and air yards. In Week 1, the issue was mostly Trevor Lawrence misfiring. In Week 2, Lawrence made his fair share of mistakes, but the bigger problem with their connection was Thomas' failure to make catches in traffic. He looked nervous to take contact, and seemingly had better chemistry with Mac Jones. That said, Thomas is incredibly talented, and his route/target/air-yard shares are all equal or better to his numbers from last year.
  • CB Jarrian Jones suffered a back injury early in the game and didn't return, which contributed to Travis Hunter's defensive snaps more than quadrupling from Week 1.
    • Hunter finished with six targets on 60% snap share and 60% route share, down from eight targets on 64% snaps and 77% routes in Week 1.
    • Meanwhile, WR Dyami Brown put up 5-57-1 while finishing second on the team in routes, targets and air yards, but his end-zone drop in the fourth quarter is what Duval will remember.
    • WR Parker Washington put up 5-76-0, with five targets on just 11 routes. He's typically been a guy with a lower target rate but solid per-target efficiency, who doesn't offer size or great speed but generally looks competent.

  • QB Joe Burrow limped off with a toe injury in the second quarter and didn't return. He's expected to miss most/all of the season.
    • QB Jake Browning, as in 2023, kept the Cincinnati offense moving and Ja'Marr Chase well fed. However, Browning tossed three picks along the way, boosting his career INT rate to 3.6%, about double Burrow's.
    • Browning has completed 69.8% of passes for 7.9 YPA, with three fourth-quarter comebacks in the nine games where he's gotten significant playing time. Those numbers suggest he isn't a complete disaster for Chase and Tee Higgins, but it is possible the turnovers lead to Cincinnati putting more emphasis on RB Chase Brown, who got all 18 of the team's RB opportunities on 71% snap share in Week 2.
    • I worry about Higgins more than Chase, because the latter is a much better YAC threat and gets far more schemed targets. Chase is obviously starting from a much higher baseline, though his chances of living up to the 1.01 ADP without Burrow in the lineup remain poor.
  • Negative game script meant more playing time for Gesicki (and less for Sample/Fant) relative to Week 1.
    • Fant had a high target rate again, but the playing time isn't close to where it needs to be for sustainable fantasy production.

  • RB TreVeyon Henderson's snap and route shares didn't change much from Week 1 to Week 2, but his touches plummeted, getting just three carries and two targets (after five carries and six targets the week before).
    • Meanwhile, RB Rhamondre Stevenson put up 11-54-0 and 5-88-0 on 65% of snaps, with Antonio Gibson chipping in 5-27-0 rushing and one catch on 18% of snaps. This may well shift as the season progresses, but it's obviously a massive disappointment for Henderson to be Option B in a three-man backfield so far. Stevenson is the New England RB to start in Week 3, if you need one.
  • Heavy use of multi-TE formations was a big factor, but that wasn't the only issue for DeMario Douglas, who got just 63% of snaps in 11 personnel.
    • Douglas got zero snaps in non-11 groupings, as was sometimes the case the past couple years. He's strictly the slot guy for three-wide sets, and now not even getting all of those snaps.
    • Douglas' route share plummeted from 76% in Week 1 (2nd on the team) to 38% in Week 2 (t-5th).
  • Austin Hooper and Mack Hollins got more snaps at Douglas' expense, while Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte actually had slightly lower snap/routes shares in Week 2 (compared to Week 1).
    • Hollins and Boutte scored TDs but didn't have any other catches.

  • WRs Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle both had solid fantasy lines, but their peripherals through two weeks look way more like 2024 than 2022-23, and the Dolphins seem in danger of falling apart... which could actually work out well for fantasy if Hill is traded to a much better team and Waddle then featured in Miami's offense.
  • RB De'Von Achane took 94% of snaps, after taking 89% pre-garbage-time in Week 1. He got 21 of the 23 RB opportunities and scored a receiving TD for the second straight week. Achane looks like a strong candidate to lead all RBs in targets and snap share, if he can avoid breaking down.
    • Ollie Gordon took three snaps with Achane also on the field and four snaps in place of Achane.

  • After getting 81% snap share and league-high 96% opportunity share the week before, RB D'Andre Swift started Sunday in similar fashion, playing 88% of snaps in the first quarter but then losing a fumble on the final play of the frame.
    • Swift then dropped to 47% snap share in the second quarter, followed by 50% in the third and 45% in the fourth, essentially splitting playing time 50/50 with Kyle Monangai after the fumble.
      • That said... game script was also a factor, and six of Monangai's seven carries came in the fourth quarter of a blowout. The rookie did get far more snaps this week, even before garbage time, but Swift had an 11-1 advantage in carries before the fourth quarter. Monangai ran the same number of routes (38%) and had a 3-1 edge in targets, although Swift got a bit more playing time on third downs.
      • This was a small step forward Monangai, but the combination of Swift's fumble and the blowout were obviously big factors.
  • WR Rome Odunze led the team in routes and targets for a second straight week, putting up 7-128-2 on two looks.
    • With 96% route share, 30% target share and 47% air-yard share through two weeks, Odunze very much looks like the No. 1 receiver in Chicago, ahead of DJ Moore, whose 16% target share nonetheless figures to improve at least some.
  • TE Cole Kmet got more snaps, routes and targets than Colston Loveland again, though Kmet's six targets through two weeks hardly impress.
  • Top cornerback Jaylon Johnson (groin) and top linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring) both exited the game after aggravating injuries that held them out Week 1. Great work there by the team and training staff and coaches.
    • Johnson is said to be out "indefinitely", which could mean an IR transaction coming soon.

  • This basically looked like the Lions in the first half of 2024, with everyone (besides Sam LaPorta) eating good.
    • LaPorta put up 6-79-0 on nine targets the week before, so don't worry about him too much. His workload shares still rank near the top among tight ends.
  • WR Jameson Williams got his long TD, but his target rate for the season dropped to 13 percent, which is the opposite of what offseason hype coming out of Detroit suggested.
  • Isaac TeSlaa took more playing time from Kalif Raymond, including before the fourth quarter. The rookie had a 29-yard gain downfield on his lone target.
    • TeSlaa's 39% route share was still far south of anything meriting lineup consideration, but it's a big step forward from 7% in Week 1.

  • The Browns shut down RB Derrick Henry, who also fumbled again (though Baltimore recovered).
    • Baltimore moved away from running after some early failures and ultimately finished Sunday with the highest PROE in the lague so far for Week 2 (+8%).
  • WR Zay Flowers dominated volume for a second straight week, while backup wideouts Tyaln Wallace, Devontez Walker and DeAndre Hopkins combined for four TDs on six catches.
    • Flowers is at 92% route share, 43% target share and 47% air-yard share through two games, which is probably better than anyone could've imagined even for such a small sample.
    • Mark Andrews, on the other hand, has been targeted on just 11% of routes, leaving him with 9% TS and 4% AYS despite his solid 72% route share. The TPRR for Andrews will rise, and Flowers' will drop, but there's probably some degree of signal here when it comes to the former taking on even more of Baltimore's receiving workload this year (between the 20s, at least).
    • Wallace got more playing time relative to Week 1, at Hopkins' expense.
  • QB Lamar Jackson curiously had just two carries for 13 yards, with nary a designed run. The Browns made him win through the air, and he eventually did, overcoming a poor start to throw four TDs.

  • RB Quinshon Judkins got just 26% of snaps but 10 of Cleveland's 20 RB carries in his NFL debut, plus three of the 12 RB targets.
    • 13 touches for 71 yards looks good, but it was largely driven by gains of 31 and 11 in garbage time. Judkins did look solid to the naked eye, and the Browns didn't change their RB rotation much in garbage time, still playing all three of Judkins, Jerome Ford and Dylan Sampson.
    • Sampson was the big loser in terms of role, getting just 24% snap share and seven of 32 RB opportunities, but he again looked smooth as a receiver, catching an eight-yard TD pass on Cleveland's final snap. Ford could be the odd man out soon enough, though he's not a bad player in his own right.
  • TE Harold Fannin looked good again, with 5-48-0 on five targets, and his snap/route shares were similar to Week 1 (slightly behind David Njoku's in both cases).
    • Both Cleveland tight ends are startable right now.
  • WR Cedric Tillman caught a TD that bounced off the hands of Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey. Otherwise, Tillman was awful, shying away from contact and failing to make contested catches. The usage looks solid at a glance through two weeks, but it's largely driven by team pass volume, with Tillman at just 16% TPRR and not playing well in real life. He's fine as a desperation, volume-based play, but he may eventually get benched even if the other options are poor. When I watch Tillman play, I'm 99 percent sure that what I'm seeing isn't a starting-caliber NFL player. Occasionally the stats lie more than the eyes...
  • Interesting that Fannin, Judkins and Sampson are the only Browns with TPRRs above 18 percent. Small samples and all, but Kevin Stefanski clearly wants to get the ball to his rookies when they're on the field.

  • WR Jauan Jennings got 88% snap share, 88% route share, 91 air yards and a team-high 10 targets in his season debut, putting up 5-89-1 behind a catch-and-run TD.
    • WR Ricky Pearsall had a decent game with 4-56-0, but his target rate and target share both being below 20% after two weeks isn't a great sign, especially given all of San Francisco's injury/suspension issues.
  • TE Jake Tonges got 87% snap share, 67% route share and five targets, but blocker Luke Farrell scored the TD (on one of his three targets, with 40% route share).
  • The 49ers lost FB Kyle Juszczyk (concussion) and G Ben Bartch (ankle) to injuries in the first half. Neither returned, which was a hit to the team's blocking, although LT Trent Williams at least was available (after being listed as questionable on the final injury report).
    • Juszczyk's absence contributed to frequent use of multi-TE formations, even though George Kittle is on IR.

  • WRs Puka Nacua and Davante Adams have accounted for more than two-thirds of the Rams' targets and more than three-fourths of the air yards through two weeks, ranking 1st and 12th among WRs in PPR points.
  • RB Blake Corum took more playing time away from Kyren Williams, compared to Week 1, but Williams still had an 11-2 advantage in carries (and 1-0 edge in targets) before the fourth quarter.
    • Corum had nearly all of his production on a quick drive in the middle of the fourth quarter, taking gains of 15 and 9 yards to help set up a one-yard TD for himself. Williams then iced the game on the final drive with gains of 12 and 15.
    • Williams is just RB20 through two games, with 3.8 YPC. It's not time to panic, given his role, but Williams at least is on watch/notice.
  • Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington split the No. 3 WR role again, with the latter making a 40-yard catch down the sideline.
    • I still think the Rams found a legit player in Whittington, but there's just no upside for volume while Adams and Nacua are healthy, and it makes sense to want Atwell's speed at times even if Whittington is a better player in general.

  • RB Tony Pollard forced 14 missed tackles, which allowed him to average 4.6 YPC across 20 carries without a gain longer than 10 yards.
    • He added only 28 yards after the MTFs, whereas Jonathan Taylor broke four fewer tackles but gained 98 yards afterwards.
    • Pollard is at 89% snap share through two weeks, by the way. There's plenty of upside if the Titans become competitive.
  • WR Elic Ayomanor put up 4-56-1, tying for the team lead in targets and air yards even though his snap share (72%) and route share (71%) were slightly lower than Week 1 marks.
    • Ayomanor has seven targets on go routes this year. Malik Nabers (nine) is the only other player with more than four.
  • TE Chig Okonkwo saw slight losses in snap/route share relative to Week 1, but he was still above 70% for both marks, and tied for the team lead in targets (albeit with just 14 air yards).
  • QB Cam Ward has taken 11 sacks through two weeks, which is simply too many even for a rookie on a terrible team. His aDOT dropped from 10.8 in Week 1 to 7.2 in Week 2, which helped his completion rate, though it was still below 60.
    • With eight rushing yards and one total TD in two games, Ward isn't showing much fantasy potential, at least for 2025.
  • Rookie WR Chimere Dike and Van Jefferson both got more playing time, mostly at the expense of Tyler Lockett, although Ridley/Ayomanor also played a bit less relative to Week 1.

    • Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary both lost playing time as a result. The latter technically started but barely played thereafter. Tracy, meanwhile, got three carries on the opening drive but just two carries thereafter.
    • Skattebo mostly struggled, but he broke free for a 24-yard gain early in the fourth quarter and then scored a one-yard TD on the next play.
      • Skattebo also had New York's lone goal-line carry in Week 1, though he didn't score on it.
  • WR Malik Nabers has more than 400 air yards through two games, while no other player has even 300. He exploded for 9-167-2 on Sunday, including a pair of deep-ball TDs.
    • Nabers might end up better than Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, potentially combining the former's athleticism and YAC ability with the latter's unmatched catch-point and ball-tracking skills.
  • WR Wan'Dale Robinson was the surprise star of Week 2, taking advantage of DaRon Bland's absence to enjoy easily the best game of his career so far, including a career-high 161 air yards, after eight targets in Week 1 yielded just 2 air yards.
    • There was offseason chatter about Robinson being frustrated with his usage and wanting more downfield opportunities. Maybe he had a point?
  • WR Darius Slayton has a 5% TPRR and 99% route share through two weeks.

  • This is the flattest distribution of personnel groupings I've ever seen from an NFL game. The Seahawks landed between 19-22% for four different groupings (11, 12, 21, 22).
    • The target distribution, on the other hand, has been anything but flat, with JSN leading the league in target share and Cooper Kupp now at a healthy 23%.
  • RB Kenneth Walker had a big day despite getting slightly less than half of the work for a second straight week.
    • Walker forced 11 missed tackles, after just one the week before. His rate of 0.565 MTFs per carry now leads all players with 15-plus carries this year.
    • Zach Charbonnet had an awful day, taking 15 carries for 10 yards and not seeing any targets (even though he got more snaps and routes than Walker). It's just one game, and Charbonnet is a good player, but Walker still offers an element of elusiveness that Charbonnet just doesn't have. Some kind of split makes sense here; I'm mostly avoiding assumptions for now, and viewing both players skeptically as fantasy assets.
  • WR Tory Horton had the same role as Week 1 in terms of snap/route share but actually made some noise after failing to draw a target in the opener. The rookie dusted Jalen Ramsey on a deep crossing route for an early touchdown.

  • RB Jaylen Warren took 18 touches for 134 yards, with his snap share improving from 45% in Week 1 to 58% in Week 2, though Kenneth Gainwell had a small advantage in routes run again.
  • Warren got 14 of 20 RB carries (70%), up from 11 of 19 (58%) the week before.
  • The split at TE looked much like Week 1. At WR, Roman Wilson got more playing time, but not at the expense of Calvin Austin and DK Metcalf.
    • Austin was a regular in both two-wide and three-wide formations again, but he didn't play well, with his most noteworthy moment being a pass that bounced off his hands and into those of a defender in the end zone.
  • Metcalf scored a TD, but 19% TPRR, 22% TS and 20% AYS through two games is disappointing usage. I'm at least a little concerned that Aaron Rodgers just doesn't like Metcalf the way he liked his past No. 1 targets.
  • OLB Alex Highsmith suffered a high-ankle sprain, likely costing the Steelers a big piece of their veteran-laden defense for the next few weeks.
  • Pobrecito, Kaleb Johnson (said the Ravens fan through a smirk).

  • This is exactly what you feared if you started a Buffalo pass catcher after the big Week 1, only it was worse than any of us probably imagined, with every single Buffalo skill-position player landing below 60% snap share in the first half.
    • The low snap shares seen above weren't just a product of game script. Every Buffalo skill-position player was at 58% snap share or lower in the second half, with only Dalton Kincaid above 67% route share.
    • 1H route share: Kincaid (78%), Palmer (67%), Coleman (61%), Shakir (50%), Knox (44%), Cook (44%).
      • Granted, there may still be games like Week 1 where the Bills pass more and have their starters handle a vast majority of WR snaps. But the general theme with Joe Brady has been frustration for fantasy in every regard besides the rushing production for James Cook and Josh Allen.
  • Cook is the overall RB1 through two weeks,

  • The Jets got completely dominated and ran 47 plays, second-fewest of any team Week 2.
  • QB Justin Fields entered concussion protocol and missed the final two drives, leaving Tyrod Taylor in charge of the offense.
    • Taylor threw a TD pass, long after the game was out of reach. He'll start again next Sunday at Tampa Bay if Fields is out, which would actually be a downgrade for the Buccaneers D/ST in most fantasy formats (since turnovers and sacks matter so much more than point/yardage prevention). Taylor took two sacks Sunday, but he generally has a strong record of avoiding negative plays.
  • Three of New York's defensive starters (see below) left the game with injuries.
  • Josh Reynolds (hamstring) was inactive, freeing up more snaps for No. 3 receiver Tyler Johnson and backups Arian Smith and Allen Lazard (a trio that combine for four targets and minus-two yards).
  • TE Mason Taylor got just two targets despite regular snaps again. His 8% TPRR is unsustainably low but nonetheless a bad sign for Year 1 production.

  • The Broncos used 11 personnel far, far more than normal under Sean Payton, even though they spent much of the game playing with a slight lead (or small deficit). This may have partially been due to the Colts' injuries at cornerback, with Charvarius Ward and Jaylon Jones both inactive.
    • It may also have been related to increased confidence in Troy Franklin, who unexpectedly led the Denver pass catchers in snaps, routes, targets, receiving yards and air yards, putting up 8-89-1 plus an 11-yard carry.
  • Marvin Mims scored an early TD but ended up dropping to 35% snap share and 43% route share, down from 53% and 66%, respectively, the week before.
    • Franklin, meanwhile, rose from 63% route share in Week 1 to 90% in Week 2.
      • Franklin is now at 75% route share and 28% TPRR, with 12 catches for 133 yards and a TD on 15 targets through two weeks. That looks like the start of a breakout, though Sean Payton's skill-position deployment still terrifies me.
  • RJ Harvey's strong showing on limited work the week before didn't lead to more playing time. J.K. Dobbins took only 46% of snaps but 14 of 20 RB carries (70%). In Week 1, Dobbins was at 53% snap share with 16 of 22 carries (73%).

  • TE Tyler Warren got 94% snap share and 86% route share, up from 73% and 67%, respectively, in the season opener. His seven targets were second most on the team and leave him with an elite 32% TPRR after two weeks.
    • Warren has a chance to be TE3 soon, behind only Bowers and McBride.
  • WR Josh Downs got a team-high eight targets while improving his snap and route shares compared to Week 1, although 60% snap share and 63% route share is still much lower than what he typically handled last year. His 32% TPRR is the good news.
    • Michael Pittman had a quieter week, after leading the Indy passing game in Week 1.

    • Rookie RB Brashard Smith played a few snaps again, and this time even got a carry and a target (after zero opportunities Week 1).
  • WR Hollywood Brown tied Tyquan Thornton for the team lead in route share (81%) but was targeted just five times (19 air yards) after seeing 16 targets the week before.
  • Thornton has 13% of Kansas City's targets and 49% of the air yards. He caught a TD bomb Sunday and had a 32.0 aDOT on his five targets.
    • It was fun to see Patrick Mahomes throwing deep again, but his scrambling was the key in fantasy. He has 13 carries for 123 yards and two TDs through two games, with all 13 attempts coming from scrambles (rather than designed runs, kneels, sneaks, etc.).

  • The Falcons used 12 personnel on 87% of snaps, which is the highest rate I've ever seen. This has become a common counter to Brian Flores' defense, especially for coaches that don't fully trust their QBs. Multiple TEs means more potential blockers, and less certainty for the defense about which players are going to run routes (which is s a wise way to counter the massive uncertainty Flores creates regarding blitzers/coverage).
    • Anyway, Atlanta went three-wide on a mere 13% of snaps Sunday night. For reference, there were six examples all last season of a team going three-wide on less than 20% of snaps in a game (with New Orleans accounting for four of the six).
      • Atlanta surprisingly became the first team to do it this year, after using 11 personnel on a league-high 86% of snaps last year. The Falcons were at 72% in Week 1, already taking a smaller step toward more heavy-formation usage before the Week 2 anomaly / (new trend?).
  • Darnell Mooney, Drake London and Kyle Pitts all ran routes on every pass play, while No. 3 receiver Ray-Ray McCloud saw about 30% of his normal workload. and No. 2 TE Charlie Woerner had a snap rate well above 80% but a route share well below 50%.
    • It was a flat target distribution in Mooney's first game of the season, with Mooney, London, Pitts and Bijan Robinson each accounting for either four or five targets.
  • RB Tyler Allgeier got each of Atlanta's final five carries, including a five-yard TD on a play where the Vikings let him score to burn clock.
    • Nine of Allgeier's 16 carries came on Atlanta's final two drives. Before that, Bijan Robinson had an 18-7 advantage in carries and 5-1 edge over Allgeier in targets, with neither getting any goal-line chances.

  • The Vikings ran just 46 plays, fewest of any team in Week 1. The Sunday night game was slow-paced and ugly, featuring just 42 pass attempts and 109 total plays.
  • RB Aaron Jones left with a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter. No. 3 RB Ty Chandler (knee) is on injured reserve, leaving only Zavier Scott behind Jordan Mason, whose Week 2 workload shares otherwise looked about the same as Week 1's.
    • Mason will project for massive workload shares if Scott is the No. 2 RB.
  • I'm definitely worried about J.J. McCarthy, whose competence is quite important to my 2024 fantasy success. The good news is that he's only 22, and seems to move around well. The bad news is that we need him to be decent next week/month, not when he's 24.
    • We found out Monday afternoon that McCarthy suffered an ankle sprain in the third quarter. He finished the game, but Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said McCarthy (ankle) is unlikely to play Week 3 against Cincinnati, leaving Carson Wentz as the probable starter:
  • Jalen Nailor got more snaps, routes, targets and air yards than Adam Thielen again, though the Vikings used 11 personnel on 87% of snaps, so both were essentially full-time players.
  • Starting center Ryan Kelly and starting left tackle Justin Skule both left the game and entered concussion protocol.
    • Skule is filling in for standout Christian Darrisaw, who is on the active roster but hasn't played since last year's ACL tear. Darrisaw could be back for Week 3 or 4.
