Cut loose by Las Vegas
The Raiders will release Renfrow on Wednesday, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The move will open up $8.21 million in cap space for the Raiders in 2024 and was seen as an inevitability unless Renfrow agreed to a large paycut. He caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021 -- his third NFL season -- but then had only 585 yards in 27 games the past two seasons after signing a two-year, $32.33 million extension. He made it through the first season of the extension, but he'll now become a free agent a few months after his 28th birthday. Meanwhile, the Raiders have Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker atop their depth chart at wide receiver, with the latter having replaced Renfrow in the No. 3 role at times during the 2023 season.

After making his first career Pro Bowl in 2021, a slew of injuries combined with the arrival of Davante Adams caused Renfrow's production to severely dip, as the slot man closed the 2022 season with 36 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns on 50 targets in 10 games while Adams commanded a career-high 180 total targets. The Raiders traded tight end Darren Waller to the Giants this offseason, but free-agent additions Jakobi Meyers and DeAndre Carter are each capable of vulturing slot reps, which could land Renfrow on the trade block at some point. Given that he remains in Las Vegas, however, Renfrow's utility in PPR formats could potentially rebound if he earns enough playing time, as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo typically lacks in the air-yards department.

Attempting NFL comeback
Renfrow is looking to catch on with a team for the upcoming season after not playing in 2024, Levi Damien of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Renfrow's best season came in 2021, when he earned Pro Bowl honors after recording 103 catches on 128 targets for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns across 17 regular-season games -- all career bests. His production dipped over the following two years due to injury and less usage, and he was waived by the Raiders in March of 2024. Renfrow didn't play last season, but the 2019 fifth-round pick appears determined to earn a roster spot for the 2025 campaign.
