Rattler opened last season as New Orleans’ starting quarterback, guiding the team to a 1-7 record while completing 67.7 percent of his passes for 1,586 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions before eventually being benched in favor of 2025 second-rounder Tyler Shough. Shough capitalized on his opportunities down the stretch and is locked in for the starting role in 2026, leaving Rattler to battle free-agent addition Zach Wilson for backup duties. ANALYSIS
Rattler had an uneven first two NFL campaigns, making 14 starts in 16 regular-season contests and completing 62.7 percent of his pass attempts for 2,903 yards with a 12:10 TD:INT. He began last year as New Orleans' No. 1 QB but gave way to Tyler Shough after the team compiled a 1-7 record across its first eight games. Shough ran away with the job and is entering the upcoming campaign with a strong hold on top signal-caller role, which theoretically could make Rattler expendable. However, it appears the Saints want to keep Rattler as an insurance policy behind Shough, as Rattler would be in a good position to take over at QB if needed given his extensive opportunities over the past two years. Rattler's fantasy value in redraft leagues is almost non-existent given his backup role, and even if Shough were to go down with an injury, Rattler likely wouldn't be a hot pickup in most formats given his inconsistent play in the NFL so far.

Rattler had first-round hype early in his college career, but he never matched the promise of a 28-TD season for Oklahoma in 2020, and ultimately landed in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He made six starts as a rookie, losing all six games while averaging just 5.8 YPA and throwing more interceptions (five) than touchdowns (four). Rattler was in a terrible situation, playing behind a supbar offensive line and without the Saints' top two receivers, but it's nonetheless difficult to draw positives from such a brutally bad stat line. He may get another shot to compere for the starting job anyway, as the Saints otherwise are left with 2025 second-round pick Tyler Shough and 2023 fourth-rounder Jake Haener after Derek Carr announced his retirement in May.
