Xavier Hutchinson

23-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
2023 Fantasy Outlook
After drafting quarterback C.J. Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2023 draft, the Texans subsequently selected a pair of wideouts. Nathaniel Dell went in the third round followed by Hutchinson three rounds later. Hutchinson showed improvement each year Iowa State and caught 107 passes for 1,171 receiving yards while being targeted a nation-high 161 times in 2022. At 6-3, Hutchinson has good size, but he has merely average speed (4.53 40) and ball skills, which contributed to his draft-day slide. There is, however, something for coaches to work with, and Hutchinson's size makes him a red-zone fit. He could have opportunities in Houston, which lacks proven high-end talent, but he'll also have a rookie quarterback in C.J. Stroud running the offense. Read Past Outlooks

Positioned for bigger role
WRHouston Texans
February 4, 2024
Hutchinson finished the 2023 regular season with eight catches (on 19 targets) for 90 yards over 16 games. He also had five carries for 49 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hutchinson played a minor role for much of the season before injuries led to increased opportunities late in the campaign. He had four catches during the postseason, including a failed flea flicker seen as the turning point of the season-ending loss to the Ravens. Hutchinson is positioned for a greater role in 2024, as Houston is expected to move on from Noah Brown and could save cap space by releasing Robert Woods, who turns 32 in April. However, the organization is likely to bring in more established NFL bodies to compete for a job behind Nico Collins and Tank Dell (lower leg). That competition would also include teammate John Metchie, who occupied the spot immediately above Hutchinson on the depth chart in 2023.

Could see extra targets Saturday
WRHouston Texans
January 4, 2024
Hutchinson could see extra snaps and targets in Saturday night's game against the Colts with Noah Brown ruled out for the game with a back injury, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hutchinson has had a quiet rookie season after being selected in the sixth round in April's draft, recording just seven receptions for 84 yards on 15 targets and adding 49 rushing yards on five attempts. However, all but one of those receptions and nine of his receiving yards have come in the last five games, and that recent pattern could expand in Saturday's crucial win-and-in scenario with Brown ruled out and fellow wideout Robert Woods also listed as questionable with a hip injury.
