2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Vikings still value Aaron Jones, but their trade for Mason -- who then signed a two-year, $10.5 million contract -- suggests the team wants to utilize power-running concepts that don't suit Jones. At 5-foot-11, 223 pounds, Mason is a classic hammer between the tackles, complementing the lighter and more fragile Jones, who nonetheless figures to remain Minnesota's primary runner between the 20s. The closer Minnesota gets to scoring range, the more Mason's appeal should become apparent. Mason went undrafted out of Georgia Tech back in 2022, but he might have made more of a name for himself if not for then-teammate Jahmyr Gibbs stealing the spotlight. Mason's NFL production only lends credence to the idea that he was a quality player all along, with 236 career carries yielding 1,253 yards (5.3 YPC) and seven touchdowns, including 685 rushing yards and three TDs in Weeks 1-8 of 2024 when he filled in for an injured Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco. On the other hand, Mason's meager career total of 14 receptions suggests he might have to split snaps with another running back even if Jones misses time. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Held in check by Pittsburgh
Mason carried the ball 16 times for 57 yards and caught all three of his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Steelers in Dublin.
ANALYSIS
The former 49ers wasn't able to repeat his Week 3 breakout versus Cincinnati against a tougher front seven, and Mason's longest run against Pittsburgh went for only nine yards. He also saw backup RB Zavier Scott catch a 16-yard TD in the fourth quarter as Minnesota tried to come back from a 21-6 deficit. Things won't get any easier for Mason in Week 5, as he'll take on a Browns defense in London that has already stuffed Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs this season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
No player better represents the idea that just about any running back can thrive in Kyle Shanahan's offense than Mason. Undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2022, Mason has averaged 5.6 yards per carry for the 49ers, and while he lacks breakaway speed, his power and sheer refusal to go down have resulted in some impressive yards after contact in a small sample. The 49ers backfield seemingly got more crowded this offseason when they drafted Isaac Guerendo in the fourth round, but it ended up working out well for Mason when Guerendo and Elijah Mitchell both missed most of training camp with injuries. Mitchell was then place on season-ending injured reserve in late August, leaving Mason as the No. 2 running back behind Christian McCaffrey to start the season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
In line for big workload
Mason is expected to start in Week 3 against the Bengals, with Alec Lewis of The Athletic reporting that Aaron Jones suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday's loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings travel to Europe for back-to-back games in Weeks 4 and 5, so Jones is likely to be held out this coming Sunday ahead of the trip. Mason led the Minnesota backfield with 11 touches in the loss, but he's headed for a much higher workload if Jones sits, as Zavier Scott, an undrafted player with zero career carries in the NFL, is the only other healthy running back on the active roster.
