Jordan Mason

26-Year-Old Running BackRB
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Vikings still value Aaron Jones, but their trade for Mason -- who then signed a two-year, $10.5 million contract -- suggests the team wants to utilize power-running concepts that don't suit Jones. At 5-foot-11, 223 pounds, Mason is a classic hammer between the tackles, complementing the lighter and more fragile Jones, who nonetheless figures to remain Minnesota's primary runner between the 20s. The closer Minnesota gets to scoring range, the more Mason's appeal should become apparent. Mason went undrafted out of Georgia Tech back in 2022, but he might have made more of a name for himself if not for then-teammate Jahmyr Gibbs stealing the spotlight. Mason's NFL production only lends credence to the idea that he was a quality player all along, with 236 career carries yielding 1,253 yards (5.3 YPC) and seven touchdowns, including 685 rushing yards and three TDs in Weeks 1-8 of 2024 when he filled in for an injured Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco. On the other hand, Mason's meager career total of 14 receptions suggests he might have to split snaps with another running back even if Jones misses time. Read Past Outlooks

Looks good in limited duty
RBMinnesota Vikings
August 9, 2025
Mason rushed for 20 yards on four carries and failed to catch his only target in Saturday's 20-10 preseason win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start with Aaron Jones held out of the lineup Minnesota's exhibition opener, Mason saw a heavy workload on the team's first drive and then checked out of the contest. Mason was very productive last season with the 49ers in Kyle Shanahan's RB-friendly scheme, but it's not yet clear how big a role he'll have with the Vikings behind Jones, who is coming off a 2024 campaign in which he amassed 1,546 scrimmage yards and played all 17 regular-season games.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
No player better represents the idea that just about any running back can thrive in Kyle Shanahan's offense than Mason. Undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2022, Mason has averaged 5.6 yards per carry for the 49ers, and while he lacks breakaway speed, his power and sheer refusal to go down have resulted in some impressive yards after contact in a small sample. The 49ers backfield seemingly got more crowded this offseason when they drafted Isaac Guerendo in the fourth round, but it ended up working out well for Mason when Guerendo and Elijah Mitchell both missed most of training camp with injuries. Mitchell was then place on season-ending injured reserve in late August, leaving Mason as the No. 2 running back behind Christian McCaffrey to start the season.
Mason fought his way onto the 49ers' 53-man roster last preseason and suited up for 19 of the team's 20 games (including playoffs). The undrafted rookie spent most of the year on special teams, but he was able to get some run as a backup in the second half of the schedule. Mason performed particularly well over a three-game stretch from Weeks 13-15, when he accrued 171 rushing yards on just 23 attempts. The Georgia Tech product should return as San Francisco's third running back in 2023 behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could split carries with Jones
RBMinnesota Vikings
August 4, 2025
Mason might end up seeing a 50-50 split in carries with Aaron Jones out of the Vikings backfield, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Minnesota running backs coach Curtis Modkins has some experience with even workload splits, as he oversaw a Denver offense in 2021 that gave Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams exactly 203 carries each. Even if Mason sees a significant workload on early downs, he would take a back seat to Jones as a receiver, although he could make up for it in fantasy value by being the Vikings' preferred option at the goal line.
