Rest-of-Season Projections
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Nelson signed a one-year deal with Houston prior to the 2022 season, then served as a starter and had a strong season for a porous Houston defense. He recorded 52 tackles and one interception in 15 games. The 30-year-old Nelson, looking for a raise, sat out the non-mandatory offseason activities. There was some public acrimony and a sense the two sides would part ways, but the organization blinked and signed him to a two-year deal. Prior to the deal, Nelson had reported to the mandatory offseason sessions and ran with the first-team defense in camp. He figures to start opposite Derek Stingley but first must compete with Shaquill Griffin and Desmond King for the job. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS

Thwarts drive in red zone
Nelson had an interception and recorded two tackles in Sunday's 25-9 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Nelson thwarted the Ravens' second drive, which reached Houston's 16-yard line before Nelson undercut a Zay Flowers crossing route and picked off Lamar Jackson. It was the 10th career pick for Nelson, and it came during his 100th career NFL game. The nine-year veteran should be a happy camper after the Texans upgraded his contract at the start of training camp with a maximum value of $6.5 million.

Christian Kirk should maintain momentum against a Houston defense without two of its top three corners, including their slot defender.

Drake London is due for a bounce-back after no catches in Week 1, but Jaire Alexander could deny it anyway.

The Colts' cornerback personnel is weak but their run defense is strong, setting up a feast for Calvin Ridley and the Jags passing game.

Jalen Hurts should do well if he's cleared to play Sunday, while running backs like Josh Jacobs and D'Onta Foreman are in danger of sitting out or having their workloads drastically reduced.

There was a slight decline statistically for Nelson in his first season with the Steelers, but he still managed to make 61 tackles and have two takeaways. He will again take up residency as the starting right cornerback on a stud-filled defensive unit, but typically does not generate the kind of numbers to be a significant contributor in IDP fantasy formats.
