2023 Fantasy Outlook
Gentry was slightly more involved in the Steelers' offense in 2021 than he was over his first two years in that league, and he maintained that role last season. However, he hasn't been a fantasy-relevant tight end behind starter Pat Freiermuth. Gentry appeared in every game last year and secured 19 of 23 targets for 132 yards. He's yet to reach the end zone over his four professional seasons, and his upside is limited as long as Freiermuth is healthy. The Steelers also drafted tight end Darnell Washington in the third round of this year's draft, further limiting Gentry's fantasy potential. Read Past Outlooks

Joining Vegas' depleted TE room
TELas Vegas Raiders
December 27, 2023
The Raiders signed Gentry off Cincinnati's practice squad Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Gentry will join Las Vegas' active roster and will provide depth in a tight-end room that's dealing with injuries to Michael Mayer (toe) and Jesper Horsted (hamstring). Both Mayer and Horsted missed Monday's 20-14 win over the Chiefs, and if they remain out Sunday against the Colts, only Austin Hooper would slot in ahead of Gentry on the depth chart.

How often does Zach Gentry run a route when on the field for a pass play?
This data will let you see how Zach Gentry and the other tight ends for the Raiders are being used. Some tight ends may have a lot of snaps, but they're not that useful for fantasy purposes because they're not actually running routes. This data will help you see when this is the case.

After being targeted just once over his first two professional seasons, Gentry carved out a slightly larger role in the Steelers offense after Eric Ebron went down last year. Gentry appeared in all 17 games and secured 19 of 25 targets for 167 yards. While the 2019 fifth-rounder still served mainly as a blocking tight end, he'll likely have the chance to serve as the No. 2 option behind Pat Freiermuth in 2022 since Ebron isn't expected to return to the team. It was encouraging to see Gentry draw some targets last year, but he's unlikely to be a consistent fantasy option as long as Freiermuth remains healthy.
Gentry didn't see the field during the first half of the 2020 campaign and suffered a knee injury in Week 11 that kept him out for the rest of the year. He's been targeted just once in six career games and will slot in behind Eric Ebron and rookie Pat Freiermuth in 2021.
A target-deprived Gentry -- just one in four games last season -- now finds himself behind Vance McDonald and free-agent acquisition Eric Ebron heading in to 2020. In an offense that typically underutilizes tight ends this does not bode well for Gentry's fantasy value if he remains with Pittsburgh.
Gentry, who the Steelers took in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, will compete with Xavier Grimble for the number two spot on the team's depth chart behind Vance McDonald. It's not an assignment that carries much short-term fantasy utility, but Gentry, who is not known for his blocking skills, could still see enough targets in the event of injuries to pick up some value as the season rolls along.
