Tournament Preview

The European Tour heads to Qatar this week for Qatar Masters at Doha GC. There is plenty of course history to pull from since Doha is the only venue that has played host to this event since it began in 1998. This is the last stop on the desert swing. The desert course is exposed with water on half of the holes and bunkers throughout. Wind is the course's greatest defense. The course seems to favor long hitters and ball strikers.

DRAFTINGS PICKS

Chris Wood - $11,000 (18/1)

After three missed cuts to start the season, Wood returned to form in great fashion last week. He finished solo second in Oman. It seems the changes he has made in his golf game are starting to come together. Wood won at Doha in 2013, and I would expect his confidence to be high this week.

Benjamin Hebert - $8,800 (40/1)

Hebert has played the Qatar Masters the last three years and has not missed a cut. He finished as high as T10 in 2015. Hebert enters this years tournament with good form, as he has made three of four cuts and finished T9 last week in Oman. He drives the ball more than 300 yards off the tee and hits 71 percent of greens in regulation.

Nicolas Colsaerts - $8,200 (40/1)

Colsaerts has started the season with a missed cut, T32 and a T51 at Dubai last time out. Despite that start, he should be considered at this event. He finished strong the last four times he played Doha, regardless of his form coming in to the tournament. He was T28 last year and has finished as high as T9 in 2012. Colsaerts has the stats needed to succeed here, too. He hits more than 71 percent of greens in regulation and averages more than 306 yards on drives.

Erik Van Rooyen - $8,000 (40/1)

Van Rooyen comes to Doha after making his last two cuts. He was T20 at BMW SA Open and solo second at Joburg prior to that. The South African is long off the tee, averaging more than 320 yards this season. He is an excellent ball striker and ranks second in greens in regulation on tour. This will be Van Rooyen's first time at the Qatar Masters, but he has proven he can finish strong in the desert. He was T3 at the NBO Final in Oman last season last season.
