2023 Fantasy Outlook
Barabanov was one of San Jose's best players a season ago, appearing in 68 games while setting new career highs in goals (15), assists (32), points (47), shots on goal (120), power-play points (13) and average time on ice (18:03). Barabanov's mini-breakout appears to be completely sustainable given his lock-in role on one of the worst teams in the NHL. Just keep in mind that a horrendous plus-minus rating will likely come along with the points. Barbanaov was a minus-30 in 2022-23. Read Past Outlooks

Barabanov (lower body) will miss San Jose's last two games of the season, Max Miller of The Hockey News reports.
ANALYSIS
Barabanov will finish the season having picked up just four goals and 13 points through 46 games while skating in a middle-six role. It remains to be seen if the Sharks will express interest in re-signing Barabanov, a pending unrestricted free agent, this summer.

RWSan Jose Sharks
March 7, 2024
Barabanov may be kept out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Islanders for trade-related reasons, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.
ANALYSIS
Barabanov is likely to be dealt ahead of Friday's trade deadline, so San Jose presumably doesn't want to risk the 29-year-old winger suffering an injury against the Isles. He's collected 10 points through 38 contests this season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2020
Barabanov struggled to find his game after arriving in North America in the fall of 2020, but he played better following a trade from Toronto to San Jose and took his game to another level in his first full year with the Sharks. Barabanov posted 10 goals and 39 points in 70 games, both perfectly reasonable totals for a team lacking offensive weapons. He added eight points with the man advantage while seeing 1:51 of power-play time per game. Barabanov's new two-year, $5 million contract ensures he will have a prominent role with the club once again, although it's probably not enough to make him a fantasy option in standard formats.
Barabanov spent last season with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL, where he had 20 points in 43 games. His best year in the KHL was 2018-19, when he had 17 goals and 46 points in 58 appearances. The 26-year-old winger joined the Maple Leafs on a one-year contract for the 2020-21 season, and he'll compete with Nick Robertson for playing time in training camp. While Robertson is a top prospect, and Barabanov is undrafted, his professional experience in Russia may give him the edge for a bottom-six job this year. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much out of Barabanov, as he doesn't have a decorated history of filling the stat sheet.
