DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS at TB ($7,900) – Taking our minds off the extraordinary feats of Alex Ovechkin for a second, Holtby's performance at the other end of the ice should also be commended. The former Vezina Trophy winner is sporting a .930 save percentage and has yet to give up a power-play goal. The Lightning have a load of talent but haven't looked good at times, allowing 48 shots against Florida in a loss, and if they continue to be so porous on defense, Ovechkin will surely be able to capitalize and send the Caps to another victory.

CENTER

Rickard Rakell, ANH vs. CGY ($6,500) – If Ryan Getzlaf (lower body) remains out, that means Rakell will be the Ducks' No. 1 center for the second straight game. The Flames defense is talented but they haven't worked out all the kinks, losing 3-0 in their season opener and allowing three first-period goals against the Jets.

Evgeny Kuznetsov, WAS at TB ($5,900) – At the rate Ovechkin is going, Kuznetsov is a bargain at this price. He's set up all seven of Ovechkin's goals, and despite some preseason scoring woes, Barry Trotz's crew has righted the ship right off the bat. The Caps looks hungry this year and it's about time Lady Luck extended an olive branch to the league's most lovable losers.

WING

Alex Ovechkin, WAS at TB ($8,300) – He's been flat-out ridiculous with seven goals in his past two games, and Andrei Vasilevskiy's been shaky to start the season after allowing a few questionable goals. Is this the year the 32-year-old winger gets back on track after scoring "just" 33 goals last season? The best news is that six of Ovechkin's goals have come at even strength, implying that he's simply dominating his competition.

William Nylander, TOR vs. CHI ($5,500) – Through two games it's pretty easy to see that the Leafs offense is one of the league's best, if not the best. Their collection of young talent is dazzling, and Nylander has picked up where he left off last year with three points in two games. The Blackhawks have allowed just two goals this season but it'll take a miracle to keep the Leafs off the board. Chicago's defensive depth is still an area of concern, and Mike Babcock has last change on home ice to take advantage of matchups.

Vladislav Namestnikov, TB vs. WAS ($5,000) – It's an exciting time for Namestnikov, who's been very good on the top line with Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov, scoring three points in two games and averaging two more minutes of ice time per game than last year. It's a nice bounce-back season for Namestnikov, who's poised for a breakout if he sticks on that line.

DEFENSE

Jacob Trouba, WPG at EDM ($4,800) – That plus-minus will likely be a problem all season, but what's great about Trouba is that he can do everything well. Despite being held without a point, Trouba's also collected four hits and eight blocked shots, giving him the ability to contribute in multiple categories.

T.J. Brodie, CGY at ANH ($3,900) – The entire Flames team sleepwalked through the season opener, but Brodie was the standout in a win against the Jets, scoring two goals and four points. He added another five shots on goal and two blocked shots, showing off the versatility that makes him so prized on the Calgary blue line. He's averaging close to 25 minutes per game this season with a good track record of staying healthy and scoring at least 30 points a season. The Calgary defense is loaded with big names, and Brodie gets overlooked the most often.
