Jared Gordon

Easy win against heavy opponent
July 15, 2020
Gordon defeated Chris Fishgold via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26) at UFC Fight Night on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
It was a dominant effort from Gordon without his regular corner man by his side. Instead, UFC lightweight contender and ESPN commentator Paul Felder left the broadcast booth for the bout in order to corner his buddy. It worked out for all parties involved. Gordon racked up three successful takedowns en route to 10:25 worth of control time. It's disappointing he didn't get the stoppage, but this was about as lopsided a unanimous decision as you will ever see. The fact Gordon walked about with 20 percent of Fishgold's purse after the later missed weight on Tuesday is just icing on the cake. The victory improves Gordon's record with the UFC to 4-3.

Fight stays intact
July 14, 2020
Gordon will still fight Chris Fishgold at UFC Fight Island on Wednesday despite Fishgold missing weight by three pounds, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
Gordon is already dealing with adversity coming into this bout, as his regular corner was unable to make the trip to Abu Dhabi due to COVID-19 precautions. Instead, he'll have Paul Felder step away from the commentator booth to corner him for this matchup. He'll also be facing an opponent who weighed in three pounds over the featherweight limit for a non-title fight, but he'll pick up 20 percent of Fishgold's purse as a result. Despite a couple of tough breaks, Gordon remains a betting favorite of approximately (-145) as of Tuesday morning.
Slated for July 15 bout
June 13, 2020
Gordon is in line to face Chris Fishgold on the July 15 card on Fight Island, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
Gordon was first scheduled to fight Sean Woodson in mid-May before it was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After waiting a bit longer, he'll finally get an opportunity to bounce back from three losses in his last four fights versus Fishgold, who has just one UFC win to his name in three career matches. Gordon sports a one-inch height advantage while the two own identical reaches, though the two have contrasting fighting styles. Gordon will likely aim to keep the fight upright and fend off takedown attempts from Fishgold, who has collected 13 of his 18 professional victories via submission.
May 16 bout falls through
April 29, 2020
Gordon's expected fight against Sean Woodson has been called off after final negotiations fell through, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com reports.
Gordon was originally scheduled to battle Matt Sayles in San Diego before the fight was moved to Jacksonville, where an attempt was made to change the opponent to Woodson. Unfortunately, it appears the fight is off altogether and Gordon will have to wait until a future date to retake the Octagon.
Different opponent for May 16 bout
April 29, 2020
Gordon will square off against Sean Woodson on the May 16 card in Jacksonville, Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com reports.
Gordon was initially slated to face Matt Sayles when the bout was scheduled to take place in San Diego, but it appears a change has come involving his opponent in addition to the fight moving to Florida. Gordon (15-4-0) is aiming to turn things around after losing three of his last four fights and is coming off an orbital fracture in his most recent bout, which required the second such surgery of his career. Woodson (7-0-0), on the other hand, is aiming to make a name for himself after posting victories in each of his first two UFC fights.
Returning to Octagon in San Diego
March 16, 2020
Gordon (orbital) is scheduled to face Matt Sayles in a featherweight fight May 16 at UFC San Diego, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Gordon (15-4-0) will return to the Octagon on a bit of down note, as he's dropped three of his last four fights. Following his most recent bout Nov. 16 at UFC Sao Paulo, Gordon sustained the second orbital fracture of his career, but he'll be fully recovered from the injury by the time his matchup with Sayles (8-3-0) arrives.
