Paired with Josiane Nunes
January 13, 2022
Wu will fight Josiane Nunes on Feb. 26, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Wu last fought back in January of last year, as her scheduled July fight against Nicco Montano was called off after her opponent came in seven pounds overweight. Wu will be hoping that the time off helped her step up her game, as she has just one win in four fights since joining the UFC back in 2017. Her opponent, Nunes, scored a first-round knockout victory in her promotional debut in August.
Fight called off
July 30, 2021
Yanan will no longer take on Nicco Montano on Saturday's UFC Fight Night card after Montano came in seven pounds over the limit, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
Wu was looking to snap a two-fight losing streak Saturday but will instead have to wait for another chance. Fighters can sometimes come to an agreement to forfeit some of the purse to keep the fight going, but Montano's miss was egregious enough that cancelation of the bout was deemed the appropriate course of action.
Facing Montano in July
June 16, 2021
Wu will fight Nicco Montano (concussion) in a flyweight bout at UFC's July 31 event, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Wu lost soundly to Joselyne Edwards via unanimous decision in January and is looking for her first UFC win since November 2018. Montano's last couple years have been marred by injury, and she hasn't stepped in the Octagon since July 2019 as a result.
Not competitive in Abu Dhabi
January 16, 2021
Wu lost to Joselyne Edwards via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC on ABC 1 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Originally scheduled to faced Bethe Correia, Wu had all sorts of difficulty with her late-notice opponent change. In addition to displaying shockingly little power in the rare instances in which she did connect on the feet, Wu got off second in almost all the striking exchanges between the two women. It was a highly discouraging result given the fact Edwards' most recent fight prior to Saturday came for an organization called "UWC Mexico". With the UFC in cost-cutting mode and Wu sporting a 1-3 record with the company, her job would appear to be on the line.
New Fight Island opponent
January 7, 2021
Wu will now take the debuting Joselyne Edwards in a bantamweight matchup Jan. 16 on Fight Island, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Coming off a loss to Mizuki Inoue back in August of 2019, Wu was scheduled for a bounce-back opportunity against a fighter on the verge of retirement in Bethe Correia. An appendectomy forced Correia to be a late withdrawal, however, leaving the UFC searching for a new opponent with 10 days until the scheduled fight. That will come in the form of Edwards, a 9-2-0 fighter coming off a first-round victory in July with the Mexico-based promotion Ultimate Warrior Challenge. Wu is a year younger than the Panama-born prospect, and will also carry approximately a two-inch height advantage.
