Uses guillotine choke for win
Light HeavyweightUFC
October 12, 2019
Spann defeated Devin Clark via submission (Guillotine Choke) at 2:01 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Tampa.
ANALYSIS
Another fight, another stoppage win for Spann. This one didn't come as easy as his first-round stoppage victory over Little Nog in May, but Spann has made a point of not letting his bouts see the judge's scorecards. After giving up a pair of takedowns in the first round, Spann began generating more offense in Round 2. He put together a couple nice combinations and used his brute strength to clamp on the guillotine and score the 11th submission victory of his career. Spann, at age 28, is one of the few bright spots in a division that needs all of the young talent it can find.

Draws Devin Clark in October
Light HeavyweightUFC
August 6, 2019
Spann will take on Devin Clark in a light heavyweight matchup at UFC on ESPN+ 19 on Oct. 12, Nolan King and Mike Bohn of MMAJunkie.com report.
ANALYSIS
Spann is a perfect 2-0 to begin his UFC tenure, and will own advantages of five inches in height and at least four inches in reach when the cage doors close for this fight. Clark has a bit more experience with a 4-3 UFC record, most recently besting Darko Stosic via unanimous decision in June. Clark's best asset is his wrestling, which may pose problematic for Spann, as he was taken down four time in his UFC debut against Luis Henrique, even though he ended up winning the fight.
Smashes legend at UFC 237
Light HeavyweightUFC
May 11, 2019
Spann defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via KO (punches) at 2:07 of Round 1 at UFC 237 on Saturday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
This couldn't have worked out any better for Spann. He picked up an easy win against a notable opponent, gained some notoriety among casual fans, and could have easily walked away with a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Going up againsta 42-year-old opponent, Spann simply uncorked some massive bombs of which Lil' Nog had no chance of avoiding. The one-two combination that ended the bout was a thing of beauty. Given the overall lack of depth at 205 pounds, Spann is highly intriguing. He has a great frame for the division at 6-foot-5, legitimate power and is fairly young at age 27. This division needs all the help it can get and Spann is quietly on the verge of entering the top-10.

Spann will fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in a light heavyweight bout at UFC 237 on May 11, Raphael Marinho of Combate reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a unanimous decision victory over Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira at UFC fight Night 137 back in September, Spann is looking to extend his current winning streak to six matches. He'll face an opponent in Nogueira who is 42 years old and coming off a KO win over Sam Alvey in September.
Decisions Luis Henrique in UFC debut Saturday
Light HeavyweightUFC
September 22, 2018
Spann defeated Luis Henrique via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Prior to Saturday, Spann's previous six fights had all ended in the first round. While he won without issue, his pace clearly slowed as the course of the 15-minute bout progressed. Spann has a long (6-foot-5), lean frame and is a strong grappler. Given the stunning lack of depth in the UFC's light heavyweight division, the debuting Spann is worth keeping an eye on moving forward. The Texas native has some things going for him.
Short-notice replacement at UFC Sao Paulo
Light HeavyweightUFC
August 6, 2018
Spann will make his UFC debut in a light heavyweight matchup against Luis Henrique at UFC Sao Paulo on Sept. 22, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It took two attempts on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series to officially get his UFC contract, but Spann will still be forced to accept a fight on short notice in order to get his time with the promotion started. Spann will face off against a fighter that is just 2-3 with the company, and will enter as the younger man, in addition to holding height and reach advantages. He'll face a tough crowd in Brazil, but certainly has the experience and physical tools to come away with a victory.
