Cirkunov clash rebooked for March 13
Light HeavyweightUFC
February 18, 2021
Spann will square off against Misha Cirkunov (undisclosed) on the UFC's March 13 card, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Spann and Cirkunov were originally scheduled to collide in mid-December, but an undisclosed injury for Cirkunov forced it to be pushed back a few months. It appears the two are set on a new date, as Spann looks to rebound from his second loss in the UFC, which came at the hands of Jimy Walker via a first-round knockout. Given that the two have each seen more than half of their UFC bouts end before the first-round bell, this one has a good chance to be over in a flash.

Suffers first UFC loss

Spann lost to Johnny Walker via TKO (elbows) at 2:46 of Round 1 at UFC FIght Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Spann is going to be kicking himself following this one. He cracked Walker in the early going and appeared to be in pretty good shape after pinning his opponent up along the fence, but Spann didn't tie up Walker's arms and his opponent unleashed a serious of furious elbows to the side of his head a la Travis Browne. Spann appeared to be upset as the decision was announced, perhaps thinking the elbows were to the back of his head and thus illegal shots, but they all appeared to land to the side. The loss snaps an eight-fight winning streak for Spann and is his first setback since July 2017.
Will fight on September 19

Spann will take on Johnny Walker in a light heavyweight fight set for Sept. 19 at UFC 253, which will be held in a yet-to-be-determined location, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
Spann was handed a 180-day medical suspension after his win in early-May over Sam Alvey, but it appears he's been cleared from any injury he picked up in that fight. The 28-year-old is a perfect 4-0-0 since joining the UFC in 2018 and will now get what's perceived to be a step up in competition with Walker. Walker took the UFC by storm with a 3-0 start to his career that featured exclusively first-round stoppages, but has crumbled against superior competition, losing back-to-back fights. This will be a perfect litmus test for Spann, who could make a case for a spot in the rankings with his fifth company win. Walker has height and reach advantages, plus lands a higher striking volume. Spann is more effective with the takedown, when employed, and has also absorbed slightly less punishment in his UFC run.

Spann was handed a 180-day medical suspension Monday, MMAJunkie.com reports.
The nature of Spann's injury was not revealed. He won his fourth straight fight in a split-decision victory over Sam Alvey on Saturday, but he evidently took enough of a beating that he won't be fighting again until November unless cleared by a physician.
