First man to submit Jacare Souza
May 15, 2021
Muniz defeated Ronaldo Souza via submission (armbar) at 3:59 of Round 1 at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.
Muniz didn't just become the first man to submit Jacare, he also broke his arm. After landing two takedowns with no resistance from Souza, Muniz clamped on the submission after Jacare left his arm exposed. It's something we never would have seen from Souza in his prime or even a couple years ago, but timing is everything and Muniz took full advantage of the opportunity. The Brazilian is now a perfect 3-0 in the UFC in addition to a pair of win on Dana White's Contender Series. He has won seven straight overall and is without a defeat dating back to October 2016. The 31-year-old is an up-and-comer at 185 pounds.

Draws Andrew Sanchez at UFC 257
November 18, 2020
Muniz will take on Andrew Sanchez in a middleweight matchup at UFC 257 on Jan. 23, Marcelo Barone of Globo Esporte reports.
Muniz is a perfect 4-0 in the UFC, and will now get a slight step up in competition against a fighter in Sanchez who has won three of his last four. Muniz will enter with a four-inch reach advantage, but isn't known as a high-volume striker. He instead focuses on grappling, taking down his opponent 2.61 times per 15 minutes of fight time and attempting 2.2 submissions over that same span. Sanchez, however, has yet to be taken down in eight UFC fights. Sanchez also sports double the rate of significant strikes landed per minute as that of Muniz. Where this fight ultimately takes place will effectively be key to its outcome.
Notches slick submission victory
September 5, 2020
Muniz defeated Bartosz Fabinski via submission (armbar) at 2:42 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
This dynamic always seemed to favor Muniz as a high-level submission specialist against a control grappler, and that played out to a tee early in the first round, when Muniz slapped on the armbar from guard after Fabinski landed an initial takedown. Muniz has powerful strikes on the feet but will always prefer to fight on the ground, as 13 of his now 20 wins have come via tap out. This may put a cap on his ceiling going forward but shouldn't preclude him from getting into the top 10, particularly if he can develop his power striking game. Muniz's record moves to 20-4 in professional MMA as a result of the victory.
