Takes decision from newcomer
FeatherweightUFC
January 15, 2022
Algeo defeated Joanderson Brito via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Algeo's ceiling is quite low because he has little power in his hands, and his athleticism is limited, but he's tough as nails, has been a professional for nearly a decade and isn't going to beat himself inside the Octagon (as Brito found out in this one). Algeo had problems with the grappling of his Brazilian opponent in the opening frame, but he turned the tables over the course of the final ten minutes, landing a pair of takedowns of his own, good for nearly four minutes (4:50) worth of control time. Algeo's lack of secondary offensive skills make it unlikely he will go on any sort of prolonged winning streak moving forward, but he's more than capable of pulling an upset such as this one if given the opportunity. Just don't expect it to happen with regularity.

Targeted for early-2022 bout
FeatherweightUFC
September 21, 2021
Algeo will take on newcomer Joanderson Brito in a presumed featherweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for for early-2022, according to the Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series telecast (via Aaron Bronsteter of TSN.ca).
ANALYSIS
Algeo is 1-3 under the UFC banner and could very well be sent packing if he's unable to dispatch the Dana White's Contender Series product. The four-fight sample size has shown impressive volume numbers for Algeo, but his downfall so far has been takedown defense, as he's given up 20 takedowns over that span. That could be an issue against Brito, who recorded three takedowns in his DWCS-winning fight. On the bright side, Algeo will have a four-inch height advantage, as well as a slightly-superior reach.
Drops tight decision in Vegas
FeatherweightUFC
May 22, 2021
Algeo lost to Ricardo Ramos via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This is a classic case of the risk you run if you leave the fights in the hands of the judges. Algeo was the much better man on the feet, posting a 90-57 edge in total strikes landed, but Ramos connected on eight successful takedown attempts and that was ultimately enough to win him the fight, even if he didn't do a ton with his positional advantage. Algeo has alternated wins and losses since arriving on the scene last August. While the record is underwhelming, "Senor Perfecto" has proven to be a solid all-around fighter who has hung in there against some quality competition. Algeo has definite value to a company which holds an event most every weekend.
Fight vs. Ramos coming May 22
FeatherweightUFC
April 21, 2021
Algeo and Ricardo Ramos will face off in a featherweight bout at UFC Fight Night on May 22, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Algeo and Ramos were meant to fight April 17, but they had to be removed from the card as a result of COVID-19 protocols. Instead, they'll now face off late May. This will mark Algeo's chance to improve his record with the UFC to 2-1-0.
Fight officially off card
FeatherweightUFC
April 15, 2021
Algeo's scheduled fight against Ricardo Ramos has officially been removed from the card due to a positive COVID-19 test.
ANALYSIS
Algeo lost his opponent for the bout in Ramos due to COVID-19 protocols following a positive test, leaving the fight in heavy doubt given the minimal time to find an opponent. Any chances of it continuing can now be put to rest, leaving the card with 11 fights total.
Saturday's fight in jeopardy
FeatherweightUFC
April 14, 2021
Algeo's opponent Ricardo Ramos had to pull out of their featherweight bout on Saturday due to COVID-19 protocols, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
With just a few days before the fight was scheduled to take place, it would seem unlikely that the UFC would be able to find a replacement to take on Algeo. They could also look to rebook the Ramos fight in a few weeks time. Algeo is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Spike Carlyle in last November.
