Jones defeated David Onama via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Originally scheduled to face Brazilian Alan Patrick in a rematch following a no-contest between the two this past June, Jones had no issues with the debuting Onama after Patrick was forced to withdraw due a COVID-19 issue. Onama proved to be competitive in the stand-up, but Jones simply overwhelmed him with his wrestling. Over the course of the 15-minute bout, Jones racked up 9:01 worth of control time on 8-of-14 takedown attempts. The 26-year-old needs to work on his striking defense, but there's some power here in addition to a solid wrestling base. It's Jones' first UFC victory in three tries.

Gets disappointing no-contest result

Jones fought Alan Patrick to a no-contest after he was charged with an accidental eye poke that halted the action at 2:14 of Round 2 at UFC Vegas 28 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
While Jones won't come away with a win here, this matchup left no doubt who the superior fighter was. The 26-year-old looked polished on the feet, as he was able to avoid Patrick's big, looping shots early. When Patrick started slowing down, Jones was able to pick him apart. He was credited with 38 significant strikes and two takedowns in Round 1, leaving Patrick barely able to get back to his corner. The unfortunate break came just a few minutes into Round 2, as the accidental eye poke left Patrick unable to see and forced the doctors to call off the bout. Of course, no win bonus led to a disappointing fantasy score for one of the evenings higher-rostered fighters. Still, the future looks bright for the young Welshman.
