Pulls upset in UFC debut
June 6, 2021
Kirk defeated Makwan Amirkhani via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Vegas 28 on Saturday.
While Kirk was taken down once or more in all three rounds, he ended up winning the battle of significant strikes in each of the first two frames, while coming out ahead in total strikes in all three. The judges seemed to value that over the control time of Amirkhani, though the 30-27 card from judge Dave Hagen does seem a bit puzzling. Still, it was an excellent effort from the UFC newcomer who took this fight on less than two week's notice. The 27-year-old fell to Billy Quarantillo nearly two years ago on Dana White's Contender Series, but it looks like he's here to stay in the UFC this time around.
