Rodriguez defeated Valesca Machado via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, she was one of four UFC fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
Rodriguez ran into a game opponent who cut her open with an elbow in Round 1, but on the whole, she was able to ride both her striking and grappling to victory. When it was all said and done, Rodriguez came out ahead in the significant striking battle 43 to 36, while also recording three takedowns and 4:18 worth of control time. She may not have gotten the finish in a weight class not necessarily known for stoppages, but White will still bring the 28-year-old, undefeated strawweight. Rodriguez did do her post-contract interview on crutches, however, which could affect the date of her UFC debut (even if she referred to it as "just a scratch").
