Quick finish earns contract
Lainesse defeated Justin Burlinson via TKO (strikes) at 1:37 of Round 1 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of two fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Lainesse came into this battle of undefeated prospects as one of the bigger betting underdogs on the card, but he looked for the kill shot from the onset, and he got just that. It wasn't the most technical striking display, as Lainesse kind of tends to loop telegraphed shots, but when they connect, they put you to sleep. In this case, he whiffed a right hand but followed with a check left hook that sent Burlinson to the canvas, and only one follow-up shot was needed. He'll enter the UFC welterweight division with a perfect 8-0-0 record, and given it was a quick night at the office, he should be ready to make his official debut in short order.
