Jessica Penne

First victory since 2014
April 17, 2021
Penne defeated Lupita Godinez via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The fact Penne was able to emerge victorious in her first fight in almost exactly four years is nothing short of remarkable. It was an ugly, grinding bout in which neither woman accomplished a whole heck of a lot, but Penne's experience edge ultimately won out. She recognized she couldn't compete with Godinez in a striking battle, so she did everything possible to keep her opponent pinned along the cage. It lead to Penne generating very little offense, but it also won her the fight. Penne's last victory prior to Saturday came against Randa Markos in The Ultimate Fighter 20 finale on December 12, 2014. It wouldn't appear that many more victories are on the way considering Penne turned 38 years of age this past January, but few thought she would make it this far following all the time away.

Set to face Hannah Goldy
February 1, 2021
Penne is expected to face Hannah Goldy on March 27, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
Penne hasn't stepped into the Octagon since April of 2017, having spent most of the intervening time serving a pair of PED suspensions. She hasn't won a fight since beating Randa Markos by split decision in her UFC debut back in 2014, losing three times since then before he long absence began. In Goldy, she'll face a fighter looking for her first career UFC win in her second fight with the promotion.
Accepts 20-month ban
February 28, 2020
Penne has received a 20-month suspension from the USADA after having tested positive for stanozolol, Damon Martin of reports.
Penne will not be eligible to return to the Octagon until Dec. 8 as a result of her ban. The strawweight was evidently in danger of potentially drawing up to a four-year suspension, so her 20-month ban can be considered somewhat fortuitous.
Facing potential four-year ban
January 10, 2020
The USADA indicated Friday that Penne has tested positive for stanozolol and has decided to contest her case in front of an independent arbitrator, Aaron Bronsteter of reports. She posted on social media earlier in the day she is facing a four-year ban that would end her career.
It's unclear what Penne's plans are moving forward, but it doesn't seem like she will appear in an octagon anytime soon. More information on the subject should surface as it plays out in the coming days and weeks.
