Karolina Kowalkiewicz

First win since April 2018
June 4, 2022
Kowalkiewicz defeated Felice Herrig via submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:01 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The UFC decided to give Kowalkiewicz another chance despite the fact she entered having lost five fights in a row. Her last win prior to Saturday also came against Herrig, way back in April 2018. That one was a split decision, while this was far more convincing. Karolina appeared as if she was operating an entirely different speed than Herrig, which perhaps shouldn't have come as much of a surprise considering Felice was coming off two ACL surgeries and retired after the bout. The stoppage win was Karolina's first since May 2014, which came in KSW against someone named Jasminka Cive. Combine the fact Kowalkiewicz turns 37 years of age this coming October with her recent struggles of late, and it seems quite likely this result is a fluke as opposed to a sign of things to come, but it likely ensures Karolina will receive another fight with the company.

Booked for UFC Vegas 56
May 27, 2022
Kowalkiewicz will face Felice Herrig in a strawweight matchup at UFC Vegas 56 on June 4, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
Kowalkiewicz won five of her first seven matchups under the UFC banner, but she's now dropped five consecutive bouts, most recently losing to Jessica Penne via submission (armbar) at UFC 265 in August. She'll attempt to bounce back against Herrig, who most recently lost to Virna Jandiroba via submission (armbar) at UFC 253 in August of 2020. Herrig underwent knee surgery in October of 2020 and hasn't fought since. Herrig has slight advantages in both height and reach.
Losing streak hits five
August 7, 2021
Kowalkiewicz lost to Jessica Penne via submission (armbar) at 4:32 of Round 1 at UFC 265 on Saturday in Houston.
It's a near certainty that this will be the defeat that finding results in Kowalkiewicz being handed her walking papers, and she has no one to blame but herself. Knowing full well that Penne's biggest (and arguably only) advantage in this fight was on the mat, Kowalkiewicz willingly jumped to the ground, and that was all she wrote. She tried everything under the sun to get back to her feet but was unable to do so. Kowalkiewicz had a bunch of success early in her UFC career. She won five of her first seven bouts, including a split decision win over current UFC Women's Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas. It's been all downhill from there. The 35-year-old has lost five fights in a row and is without a victory in well over three years.
Matchup on tap with Jessica Penne
June 22, 2021
The UFC announced Tuesday that Karolina Kowalkiewicz (eye) will face Jessica Penne (13-5-0) in a strawweight fight set for Aug. 7 at UFC 265.
After opening her UFC career with a 5-2 record, Kowalkiewicz (12-6-0) has lost her last four fights to fall below .500 since joining the promotion in December 2015. Kowalkiewicz's most recent loss was a decisive one, as she fell to Xiaonan Yan via unanimous decision in February. The 35-year-old suffered an eye injury in the bout that later required surgery, but she'll be fully recovered by the time she returns to the Octagon later this summer.

Kowalkiewicz will have eye surgery after losing to Yan Xiaonan at UFC Fight Night 168 in Auckland on Saturday, MMAFighting.com reports.
Kowalkiewicz suffered this injury mid-fight, and her vision was affected for the rest of the bout. The 34-year-old relayed that she has a small broken bone below her eye. It's unclear how long she'll need to recover.
Suffers non-competitive loss
February 22, 2020
Kowalkiewicz lost to Yan Xiaonan via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night 168 in Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday.
Kowalkiewicz deserves credit for hearing the final bell, but it was clear very early on that she was not in a good situation, as Xiaonan landed hammers throughout the course of the fight. Since bursting into the organization as someone who would just come forward and through strikes, the Polish fighter seems to have hit a wall, having lost four consecutive bouts. This puts her future with the company in considerable jeopardy. She falls to 12-6 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
