Stunning UFC 290 victory
Gomes defeated Yazmin Jauregui via TKO (punches) at 0:20 of Round 1 at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Who could have possibly seen that coming? Gomes had two UFC appearances under her belt entering this one, a TKO win over Bruna Brasil and a unanimous decision defeat to Loma Lookboonmee. She found herself as a +310 underdog to Jauregui in a fight virtually no one gave her a chance of winning, but Gomes, who has power, connected on an immediate combination which stunned her opposition. It allowed the Brazilian to unload countless unanswered strikes until referee Jason Herzog finally pulled the plug. The emphatic victory would go on to earn her a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Gomes won't be 24 years of age until late-December, so there's theoretical long-term upside here.

ANALYSIS

Picks up first UFC victory
Gomes defeated Bruna Brasil via TKO (punches) at 2:42 of Round 2 at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Gomes wasn't all that competitive in a unanimous decision loss to Loma Lookboonmee in her UFC debut last September, but she looked much better here against Brasil. Gomes set the pace with her wrestling, landing all three of her takedown attempts before clipping her opponent with a huge right hand and some follow-up shots which resulted in the fifth knockout win of her career. Still just 23 years of age, Gomes has far more power in her hands than your typical 115-pounder, and that combined with her youth makes her a fighter worth monitoring moving forward.
