Loses in return from long layoff
Phillips lost to Gaston Bolanos via unanimous decision (28-29, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Fighting for the first time since July 2020 and in search of his first UFC victory, Phillips didn't show much, although he wasn't overwhelmed. He did managed to land 3-of-5 takedown attempts, good for more than six minutes worth of control time (6:01), but Bolanos landed the much more impactful strikes the entire duration of the bout. Set to turn 34 years of age in early-August, Phillips is now 0-4 over the course of two separate stints with the UFC. He's 11-1 in fights outside of the organization, but we've seen enough from Phillips to know it's highly unlikely any sort of breakthrough will be forthcoming.
