Perez defeated Joselyne Edwards via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
Perez likely thought she would be able to dominate this fight with her grappling, but work on the ground proved a bit of a challenge, which forced Perez to stay at range. "Fiona" did surprisingly good work in the pocket against a lifelong kickboxer, which was capped by a spinning back fist that sent Edwards to the canvas in Round 2. While it was a victory for Perez, this was her second fight in a row in which she had to work incredibly hard against lower-level competition. She again relied on her wrestling game, scoring a couple takedowns for 8:15 worth of control time over the course of the first two rounds alone before Pudilova pinned her to the mat for nearly all of Round 3. There was no doubt Perez was going to get her hand raised, but this wasn't a dominant performance against a lower-level opponent.
