Alex Morono
The Great White

USA
Losing streak hits three
Morono lost to Carlos Leal via TKO (punches) at 4:16 of Round 1 at UFC 313 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Leal is a tough opponent, but if the UFC was using this fight as a barometer to see if there was any gas left in the tank regarding Morono, the company got its answer in resounding fashion. Alex is simply absorbing far too much punishment at this stage of his career. His footwork has evaporated. Morono can't get to his offense because he's too busy getting blasted by his opposition. Set to turn 35 years of age this coming August, the Texan has lost three in a row dating back to last June. His roster spot is in serious jeopardy.

Booked against Leal
Morono will fight Carlos Leal at UFC 313 on March 8, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Morono will be desperate to turn things around in March, as his most recent loss to Daniel Rodriguez gave him three losses over his last four fights. Morono will have a significant experience advantage, however, as Leal has only one UFC fight under his belt -- a loss to Rinat Fakhretdinov.

Struggles continue in Vegas
Morono lost to Daniel Rodriguez via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's difficult to know what judges are looking for when they score a fight, but the numbers suggest Morono was fortunate to emerge with even a split decision defeat here. He was fine in Round 1, winning the frame on all three scorecards, but found himself on the short end of a 98-43 count in terms of total strikes landed over the course of the final 10 minutes. Rodriguez also landed a takedown during that stretch. The 34-year-old Texan has faded in a major way of late, dropping three of four dating back to October 2023.

Next fight scheduled
Morono is scheduled to compete against Daniel Rodriguez in a welterweight fight at UFC Vegas 98 on Oct. 12, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Morono's next fight is against an opponent trying to prevent a four-bout losing streak. As for Morono, he will look to get back to winning ways after Niko Price defeated the former at UFC 302.

Folds under pressure in Newark
Morono lost to Niko Price via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
Morono came out looking to bounce on his toes and throw big shots, but the unrelenting pressure and grappling of Price was simply too much, leaving Morono gasping for breath by the end of Round 1. "The Great White" took this fight on about a month's notice, but even with the incredible pressure of Price, it was surprising to see him lose his gas tank to such an extent. Morono has the BJJ skills to wing heavy punches without fear of going to the ground, but he needs more depth in his striking game if he wants to avoid hitting the occasional wall. Morono falls to 24-10 in professional MMA due to the loss.

Gets right back in win column
Morono defeated Court McGee via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a woeful performance in a unanimous decision loss to Joaquin Buckley last October, Morono was given a layup here against an aging opponent in McGee. He emerged with the victory he came to the UFC Apex for, but he had to work for it. Alex had a massive edge whenever this fight was on the feet. He had a couple legitimate submission attempts in Round 2, but neither materialized and Morono spent a good portion on his back as a result. All three judges felt he dropped the frame, but Alex did enough in Round 3 to earn the decision. Set to turn 35 years of age in August and with nearly 35 professional fights under his belt, expect Morono to hover around the .500 mark moving forward.
