Crushing loss to Paul Craig
MiddleweightUFC
July 22, 2023
Muniz lost to Paul Craig via TKO (elbows) at 4:40 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
What a disaster. Dropping a main event to Brendan Allen is one thing, but losing here to a 35-year-old Craig, who was competing in a new division, is another matter entirely. Muniz won Round 1 on all three judges scorecards on the strength of some decent striking and trademark grappling, but that all changed in Round 2. He gave up two stunningly easy takedowns, eventually getting trapped alongside the cage and eating countless unanswered elbows which forced referee Dan Movahedi to step in. A winner of each of his first five UFC bouts, it's all fallen apart for Muniz in the span of five months. He'll probably be fighting for his job his next time out.

Loses in surprise main event
MiddleweightUFC
February 25, 2023
Muniz lost to Brendan Allen via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:25 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Undefeated for nearly six and a half years and victorious in each of his first five UFC bouts, Muniz saw it all fall apart against a highly underrated opponent. Entering as a healthy -205 favorite, Muniz never seemed to get on track. He and Allen fought to even terms in Round 1 before the gap widened. Muniz had leaned on his wrestling throughout his UFC run, but he failed on all three of his takedown attempts in this fight in addition to allowing Allen to land his only try. Losing is one thing, but few could have ever seen Muniz being out-grappled by Allen. One defeat typically isn't the end of the world, but Andre turned 33 years of age in early-February, meaning he can't afford too many setbacks moving forward.
Battling Brendan Allen
MiddleweightUFC
December 17, 2022
Muniz is scheduled to face Brendan Allen in a middleweight bout Feb. 25 at the UFC's event in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Muniz has begun his UFC career with five consecutive victories, three of which came in the first round. Most recently, he won a unanimous decision over Uriah Hall in July. Allen is also on a roll and comes into the fight having won three in a row.
Shuts out Uriah Hall
MiddleweightUFC
July 2, 2022
Muniz defeated Uriah Hall via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 276 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
To give you an idea how dominant Muniz was, Hall didn't land a single significant strikes in either the first or final frames. Muniz is capable on the feet, but everything he does inside the Octagon is an attempt to hopefully get his opponent to the mat. All told, Muniz landed 4-of-10 takedown attempts here, good for 10:12 worth of control time. It would have been nice to see Muniz seek out the finish a bit more than he did, but the end result here was never in question. A product of Dana White's Contender Series, Muniz is a perfect 5-0 in the UFC with three stoppage wins on his resume. The 32-year-old Brazilian is going to get a high-level opponent his next time out.
New matchup with Uriah Hall
MiddleweightUFC
April 22, 2022
Muniz agreed to face Uriah Hall in a middleweight bout at UFC 276 on July 2, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The previous matchup between the two was scheduled for April 16, but Hall was forced to withdraw and the promotion was unable to find a replacement fighter. The pair now has a new date set while Hall seeks to rebound from a loss to Sean Strickland, though he did win his previous four fights. Muniz has yet to lose since debuting in the promotion in 2019 and is coming off a win over Eryk Anders.
