Falls via split decision in Vegas

Algeo lost to Andre Fili via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was the extremely close, competitive fight most expected. Algeo started slowly. He ate a few head kicks in the opening frame that would have easily finished off any mere mortal. He rebounded with a much better second frame, taking the action to Fili. With the fight tied a round apiece, Algeo was taken down to the mat early in Round 3 and spent the rest of the frame there. There's an argument to be made he was the fighter who did more damage from that position, but it was Fili who had his back, and that's the guy the judges usually score it for. The loss snaps a brief two-fight winning streak for "Senor Perfecto."

Algeo will fight Andre Fili in a featherweight bout at UFC's Sept. 17 event, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Algeo is fresh off a win over Herbert Burns last month, and he also defeated Joanderson Brito in January. Fili, who was originally slated to face Lando Vannata (undisclosed), is looking to enter the win column for the first time since June 2020.
Gets past Herbert Burns

Algeo defeated Herbert Burns TKO (retirement) at 1:50 of Round 2 at UFC on ABC 3 on Saturday on Long Island.
ANALYSIS
Burns did all he could to hand Algeo this victory, but Bill deserves a ton of credit for even being in a position to accept the win. Algeo was in dire straits on multiple occasions in Round 1 after finding himself in deep submission attempts from a legitimate mat wizard in Burns. Algeo remained calm and somehow managed to survive, which was essentially all it took to earn the victory because Burns was so tired and/or unwilling to fight afterwards that referee Keith Peterson called off the bout early in Round 2. For earning the stoppage, Algeo will take home one of six $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening. Algeo has won back-to-back fights and three of four dating back to November 2020.

Algeo will take on Herbert Burns at the UFC event scheduled for July 16 in Long Island, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Algeo was originally slated to face Billy Quarantillo (undisclosed) in Long Island before the latter was forced to withdraw from the card, but he'll now square off against Burns after Khusein Askhabov -- Burns' original opponent -- also withdrew from the event. Algeo will look to earn a second straight victory after defeating Joanderson Brito via unanimous decision back in January.

Algeo won't face Billy Quarantillo in UFC Long Island, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Algeo still has time to find a replacement fighter, but his next fight is certainly in doubt. The 33 year-old fighter is riding a one-game winning streak, knocking off Joanderson Brito by decision in January.
