Inconsistent ways continue
BantamweightUFC

Katona lost to Jean Matsumoto via uanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This was a quick turnaround for Katona on the heels of a dominant unanimous decision win over Jesse Butler in early-June. Numbers wise, this fight was shockingly close. Both men landed 89 significant strikes, while Katona connected on three takedowns compared to one for Matsumoto. Still, the judges didn't think Katona did enough. The 32-year-old Canadian has alternated losses and wins in four fights since returning to the company in August 2023.
Matsumoto up next

August 27, 2024
Katona is scheduled to compete against Jean Matsumoto in a bantamweight fight at UFC Vegas 99 on Oct. 19, per the promotion's announcement Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After beginning 2024 with a loss in his native Canada, Katona will look to have turned this year around by defeating Matsumoto. Katona has already made one step in the right direction, having dominantly defeated Jesse Butler at the UFC's June 8 event.
Dominates as huge favorite
BantamweightUFC
June 8, 2024
Katona defeated Jesse Butler via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky.
ANALYSIS
Entering as by far the largest favorite on the card at upwards of -700, Katona dominated from bell-to-bell. In a fight which lasted 15 minutes, Brad won the total strike battle by a 148-32 (!!!) count, in addition to landing all three of his takedown attempts, good for 10:50 worth of control time. It set up as a get-right spot for Katona on paper, and he took full advantage of the opportunity. A two-time winner of The Ultimate Fighter, the 32-year-old Canadian should be looking at a significantly tougher test his next time out.
Set to face Jesse Butler

March 28, 2024
Katona will face Jesse Butler in a lightweight bout at a UFC event on June 8, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Katona will hope to bounce back after losing his most recent fight, a Toronto bout against Garrett Armfield via unanimous decision in January. This will be just his second appearance in UFC since 2019, though overall, he owns a 2-3 record in the company.
Falls in native Canada
BantamweightUFC
January 20, 2024
Katona lost to Garrett Armfield via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 297 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
There's absolutely a case to be made that Katona deserved a better fate. He struggled a tad during the striking exchanges over the first ten minutes, but ended each of the first two rounds with a takedown. Round 3 wasn't close. Brad was the much better conditioned athlete, while Armfield limped to the finish line. It wasn't enough. Each of the three judges had Armfield up 20-18, so the final frame didn't matter. The only two-time winner in the history of The Ultimate Fighter, the 32-year-old Katona simply couldn't afford a loss in a fight like this as a -215 favorite in his native Canada.
