Finds submission in UFC debut
Matsumoto defeated Dan Argueta via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:59 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Sporting an undefeated professional record at age 24 and considered a quality prospect in a loaded bantamweight division, Matsumoto didn't show much in his UFC debut, He allowed Argueta to connect on a ridiculous nine takedowns, but to the Brazilian's credit, he took advantage of his opponent's one big mistake, grabbing ahold of Dan's neck and choking him out at the very end of Round 2. Matsumoto's next issue is cleaning up the poor takedown defense he displayed in this bout.

Undefeated fighter joins UFC ranks
Matsumoto defeated Kasey Tanner via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Matsumoto and Tanner started the night off with a bang, as 225 combined significant strikes were landed in the 15-minute affair. While Tanner had a slight edge in the numbers, as well as employed a bit of wrestling to his advantage, it was Matsumoto who landed the more effective and damaging strikes. He invested in Tanner's lead leg early and often in the bout, but overall did a great job varying his attacks. Matsumoto started to pull away in Round 3 and landed a massive left hand early in the frame that would have put many UFC-caliber fighters on their back, but Tanner survived due to his tremendous toughness. The quality opener got Dana White out of his seat and into the cage to congratulate both fighters. While Matsumoto gets the contract and enters the UFC with a spotless record, it wouldn't be surprising to see Tanner get the call down the road as well.
