Wacky finish leads to no contest
Argueta and Ronnie Lawrence fought to a no contest (overturned decision) at 2:20 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 47 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing result for Argueta in a fight in which he looked excellent and appeared to be just seconds from winning via submission. An immediate takedown from Argueta eventually resulted in him catching Lawrence in a guillotine choke. The latter raised his hand to tap out but never did. That resulted in referee Keith Peterson tapping Lawrence's hand to make sure he was still awake, resulting in Ronnie appearing to give up. Peterson stopped the fight and awarded Argueta a submission victory before the result was overturned -- correctly -- via replay. Neither man absorbed much damage in the brief bout, so perhaps the UFC will run it back in short order.

Secures first UFC victory
Argueta defeated Nick Aguirre via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a convincing performance from Argueta as a -500 favorite against a late-notice opponent. He finished the bout with a 93-15 edge in total strikes landed. He connected on 4-of-6 takedown attempts, good for 10:14 worth of control time, an overwhelming number for a fight which lasted just 15 minutes. It was a much-needed rebound for the 29-year-old New Mexico native on the heels of his unanimous decision loss to Damon Jackson in his UFC debut last June.
