De Randamie will fight Irene Aldana in a bantamweight matchup at UFC 268 in November.
ANALYSIS

Surprise guillotine gets victory

De Randamie defeated Julianna Pena via technical submission (guillotine) at 3:25 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
De Randamie was content to let Pena take the center of the Octagon early while circling the outside and working her jab. It was the right hand -- the same one that put away Aspen Ladd -- that seemed to do the most damage, landing flush on Pena on multiple occasions. More importantly, De Randamie's takedown defense seemed to hold up -- at least until the final seconds when Pena did get her down. Pena opened Round 2 by charging forward with a blitz, and while both women landed in the exchange, the most important aspect was that it set up another takedown for Pena. De Randamie spent the rest of the frame fighting the grappling of Pena and was never able to get back to her feet. She did land a few shots from her back, but the round ultimately went to Pena, who threatened with a choke for the better part of the final two minutes. De Randamie successfully went back to her striking in the early part of Round 3, landing with the jab as well as a few uppercuts. She got backed up against the fence near the midway point, but when Pena finally had the position to commit to a takedown, de Randamie caught her neck on the entry. It looked for a moment like Pena would escape, but when the ref stepped in to check on her, her arm was limp. De Randamie is a kickboxer by trade and has never submitted anyone in her career, which makes this outcome all the more surprising and puts her on track for another top-ranked bantamweight. She'll also take away $50,000 for her efforts as one of four Performance of the Night bonus winners.
Match against Pena in the works

De Randamie is expected to take on Julianna Pena in a bantamweight match at the UFC's Oct. 3 event, MMAJunkie.com report.
ANALYSIS
The former UFC women's featherweight champion is coming off a December loss to Amanda Nunes, prior to which she had compiled five consecutive wins. Her next opponent, Pena, recently took a sabbatical from the octagon since last July due to an undisclosed injury, but she now appears back to full health. The expected October fight would only be Pena's second bout since her 2017 hiatus from the UFC after becoming a mother.
Comes up short in title quest

De Randamie came up short in her quest for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion on Saturday, falling to Amanda Nunes via unanimous decision (44-49, 46-49, 45-49) at UFC 245 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
De Randamie's inability to defend a takedown combined with her lack of awareness on the mat may have very well cost her a chance at being a multi-division champion. GDR displayed super human toughness in even making it through Round 1. She survived some massive shots and at least one deep submission attempt from Nunes. She looked much better in Round 2 and had her moments in Rounds 3 and 4, but every single time she appeared to be making some headway, Nunes simply changed levels and threw her to the mat. De Randamie is an elite Muay Thai specialist so it's obvious her wrestling and ground game won't be on that level, but she looked like a legitimate amateur in both areas. She made countless routine positional mistakes and thus was unable to take advantage of the potentially vulnerable champion. Set to turn 36 years of age this coming April, GDR is too old to be satisfied with moral victories. Simply put, she doesn't possess the all-around game required to be a UFC champion.
Will face Nunes on Dec. 14
BantamweightUFC

August 17, 2019
De Randamie will face Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight championship at UFC 245 on Dec. 14 in Las Vegas, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
De Randamie is coming off a victory over top contender Aspen Ladd on July 13, which brought her winning streak to five (dating back to May of 2015). She made quick work of the highly-regarded prospect, needing just four significant strikes to pick up the knockout victory. Taking on the greatest female fighter of all time -- who also happens to be a two-division champion -- will be an entirely different story. Expect de Randamie to enter as a betting underdog, though she will carry height and reach advantages into the cage on fight night. Just about every other statistic, however, falls in favor of Nunes. The current champion throws and lands much more volume than de Randamie, and also has superior grappling and wrestling. While de Randamie once defeated Holly Holm to start a short-lived run as featherweight champion, a win over Nunes would be by far the biggest accomplishment of her MMA career.
