Jesus Aguilar

Mexico

Secures second straight win
FlyweightUFC
February 24, 2024
Aguilar defeated Mateus Mendonca via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
Either man could have gotten the call here, and it would have been perfectly acceptable. Aguilar had issues defending the takedown all night long. He gave up 4-of-8 attempts, but to his credit, constantly worked to try to get back to his feet. Aguilar was somewhat fortunate because he didn't land the typical volume on the feet (38 total strikes, 19 significant) and needed to overcome a strong wrestling performance from his opponent, but two of the three judges felt he did enough. Aguilar has won two straight on the heels of a submission loss to top prospect Tatsuro Taira in his UFC debut about a year ago.

Aguilar will fight Mateus Mendonca at UFC Mexico on Feb. 24, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
After a lightning-fast victory over Shannon Ross in his last fight, Aguilar will look to build a winning streak versus Mendonca, who remains winless in the UFC through two fights.
Immediate KO winner at UFC 290
FlyweightUFC
July 8, 2023
Aguilar defeated Shannon Ross via KO (punch) at 0:17 of Round 1 at UFC 290 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar made his UFC debut this past February, quickly tapping to rising star Tatsuro Taira (who is also on this card) in just over four minutes. He found himself as a minor -140 favorite over the struggling Ross as a result and responded with a perfectly placed overhand right which connected flush and put his opponent out cold before he hit the mat. It was a performance worthy of a post-fight bonus for the 27-year-old, but that didn't officially come to pass given the rest of the card's amazing finishes. At the very least, his roster spot will be safe moving forward. It's the first knockout victory of Aguilar's career.

Quickly taps in Vegas opener
FlyweightUFC
February 5, 2023
Aguilar lost to Tatsuro Taira via submission (triangle choke) at 4:20 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar wasn't the least bit competitive, which isn't all that surprising considering he entered as a +800 underdog, by far the largest on the entire card. A noted mat specialist that earned his UFC opportunity with a submission win on Dana White's Contender Series last August, Aguilar got twisted up during a ground exchange, allowing Taira to gain a dominant position before clamping on the triangle that ended the bout. Set to turn 27 years of age in mid-March, Aguilar should receive another opportunity despite the poor effort.
Keeps February matchup
FlyweightUFC
December 28, 2022
Aguilar's scheduled flyweight matchup against Tatsuro Taira will now take place at UFC Vegas 68 on Feb. 4 at the Apex in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Aguilar originally had a long international flight ahead of him for an event scheduled to take place in South Korea, but the UFC announced that it would be moving the event to Las Vegas in early-December. He'll put an eight-fight winning streak on the line against an undefeated (12-0), 22-year-old prospect.
