Dominates in Singapore main event
FeatherweightUFC
August 26, 2023
Holloway defeated Chan Sung Jung via KO (punch) at 0:23 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Singapore.
ANALYSIS
Holloway's dominance over everyone in the featherweight division not named Alexander Volkanovski continues. Entering as upwards of a -800 favorite, it was widely assumed Max would dominate the since-retired Jung, and for the most part, he did. Holloway ate a few big strikes here and there, but he handled them well and dished out more than his fair of punishment in return. Max has never been known as much of a finisher, but one right hand put Jung out in an instant. Even with the result, both fighters did enough to take home a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus when it was all said and done. Overall, it was another excellent effort in a fight in which Holloway had nothing to gain and everything to lose. Where Holloway goes from here remains an open question. The company has no incentive to book a fourth fight between he and Volkanovski despite the fact it's clear as day he's the second-best 145-pounder on the roster. Conor McGregor was the last man other than Volk to defeat Max at featherweight. That came on August 17, 2013, more than a decade ago.

Facing the Korean Zombie
FeatherweightUFC
June 15, 2023
Holloway will take on Chan Sung Jung in a featherweight fight at a UFC event in Singapore on Aug. 26, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Holloway is coming off a bounce-back victory against Arnold Allen after Alexander Volkanovski got the best of him in 2022. The experienced fighter will now try to add a win against Chan Sung Jung, who also fell at the hands of Volkanovski in 2022. Look for Holloway to enter as a heavy favorite.
Another standout performance
FeatherweightUFC
April 15, 2023
Holloway defeated Arnold Allen via unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47) at UFC on ESPN 44 on Saturday in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Holloway has been unable to solve the puzzle that is Alexander Volkanovski (three times), but he's handled everyone else in the division for nearly a decade now, with Allen becoming his latest victim in what was a competitive bout. Max has been in countless wars over the years, but it never changes the way he fights. He constantly seems to be out in front of his opposition. He fires off combinations when opportunities present themselves and is comfortable slowing the pace when that seems to be the smart play. The fact his cardio is among the best of all time certainly helps matters a ton, as does the fact he always eats everything thrown his way without issue. That said, Max's future is a bit cloudy because the UFC isn't going to book a fourth bout between him and Volkanovski any time soon. The last time he lost a featherweight fight to someone other than Volk was Conor McGregor, way back on August 17, 2013. That card was headlined by a Chael Sonnen submission win over Shogun Rua at TD Garden in Boston.
Fight with Arnold Allen on tap
FeatherweightUFC
January 31, 2023
Holloway (23-7-0) is slated to face Arnold Allen (19-1-0) in a featherweight bout set for the UFC's Fight Night event on April 15, Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Holloway's matchup with Allen is expected to serve as the headline fight for the April 15 event. After losing to current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski for the third straight time in his last trip to the Octagon back in July, Holloway won't yet move on from the 145-pound division, even though securing the belt will be a difficult endeavor while Volkanovski remains atop the pack. The 31-year-old will nonetheless look to keep his perfect 16-0 record against non-Volkanovski featherweight in tact when he takes on Allen, who is 10-0 since joining the UFC.
Fails in quest to regain title
FeatherweightUFC
July 2, 2022
Holloway again failed in his quest to regain the UFC Featherweight Championship on Saturday, falling to Alexander Volkanovski via unanimous decision (45-50, 45-50, 45-50) at UFC 276 in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Holloway hasn't lost a featherweight fight to anyone other than Volkanovski for the better part of a decade, but the gap between him and the current 145-pound king has never been as wide as it appears right now. Facing Volkanovski for the third time in two and a half years, Max wasn't competitive. He appeared slow and unable to avoid anything the champion threw his way. Try as he may, Holloway was unable to significantly damage Alex with any offensive thrusts. It's possible, if not probable, this outcome was simply the result of Volkanovski being that good as opposed to anything Max did wrong, but Holloway finds himself in a dreadful position regardless. If he remains at featherweight, Max is going to have to hope someone dethrones Volkanovski if he wants another title shot. Not only does that appears unlikely anytime soon, but if it ever did happen, Alex would get an immediate rematch, leaving Holloway out in the cold for potentially years to come. It's difficult to believe considering how great Max has been in recent years, but the 30-year-old finds himself at the crossroads of his career after this performance.
Enters trilogy as underdog
FeatherweightUFC
June 30, 2022
Holloway is approximately a (+170) betting underdog for his UFC 276 featherweight title shot against Alexander Volkanovski on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Holloway, the former 145-pound champion, lost his belt to Volkanovski back in 2019, and while he was granted an immediate rematch, the result was the same (albeit much closer). Now 30 years old, Holloway has marched back up the rankings with his regular, high-volume style and more than deserves this third opportunity to regain gold. Since that second defeat to Volkanovski, Holloway set a UFC record with 445 significant strikes landed in a five-round, unanimous-decision victory over Calvin Kattar. He again impressed later in 2021 by landing 230 significant strikes and three takedowns in another unanimous-decision victory over Yair Rodriguez. Even if Holloway does come up short as the underdog Saturday, his insane cardio -- mixed with the fact he's never been knocked out in his career -- likely suggests a high-scoring fantasy day.
