ANALYSIS

Remains perfect in UFC
Usman defeated Jake Collier via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It took Usman a round to get things going, but once he did, he was firmly out ahead of Collier the rest of the way. Perhaps not coincidentally, Usman clipped Jake with an eye poke early in Round 2 which seemed to slow the latter's momentum. Mohammed responded by increasing the volume in the striking game before securing a huge takedown in Round 3. Usman has picked up wins in each of his first three UFC bouts, but they've all come against lesser competition (Collier, Junior Tafa, Zac Pauga). Toss in the fact he'll be 35 years of age next April, and Usman's upside is still quite limited.

Steps in to fight Collier
Usman will take on Jake Collier in a heavyweight bout at UFC Vegas 79 on Sept. 23, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Usman will step in on short notice to face Collier, who was initially slated to take on Valter Walker. Usman will look to stay undefeated in the UFC - he's currently 2-0 - and push his winning streak to five straight professional victories. Collier, meanwhile, desperately needs a win after dropping his last three fights.

Leans on grappling in win
Usman defeated Junior Tafa via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was one of the most underwhelming unanimous decision victories you will ever see. Competing for the first time since winning The Ultimate Fighter Season 30 last August, Usman spent Round 1 pinning Tafa to the fence before pinning him to the mat in Rounds 2 and 3. He was credited with 8:37 worth of control time in the final two frames alone, and somehow connected on just seven significant strikes the entire bout. Usman did just enough for referee Mark Smith to not stand the two men back up despite never truly damaging Tafa. Still, a win is a win. That said, Usman's upside appears pretty limited despite the fact he's won his first two fights with the company.
