Growing pains in defeat
BantamweightUFC
April 8, 2023
Rosas lost to Christian Rodriguez via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 287 on Saturday in Miami.
ANALYSIS
After a performance such as this one, it's important to remember Rosas won't turn 19 years of age until this coming October. That said, Rosas doesn't get a total pass here. He came out on fire, dominating Rodriguez in Round 1. He landed three takedowns and had multiple deep submission attempts. Unfortunately, he completely gassed out once Round 2 began and wasn't the least bit competitive the rest of the way. Rosas offers nothing in terms of striking at this stage of his career, so he better get his cardio together if he is to have any prayer of hanging in there with quality competition. Hopefully this serves as a learning experience for a kid that has an extremely bright future despite the setback.

Taking on heavy opponent

Rosas' bantamweight matchup with Christian Rodriguez at UFC 287 on Saturday will go on after Rodriguez weighed in heavy Friday, Danny Segura of MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodriguez came in one pound over the bantamweight limit and will forfeit 20 percent of his purse as a penalty. He picked up his first UFC victory in October against Joshua Weems, which was his second bout in the promotion. Rosas is also coming off his first UFC win, and he did so against Jay Perrin in December as the youngest ever competitor in the company.

Sets new UFC record in win
BantamweightUFC
December 10, 2022
Rosas defeated Jay Perrin via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:44 of Round 1 at UFC 282 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Eight days after his 18th birthday, Rosas becomes the youngest fighter ever to compete in a UFC bout. Not only did he compete, he dominated. Rosas, extremely strong and effective on the mat, easy picked up a pair of immediate takedowns and proceeded to completely work Perrin on the mat before eventually choking him out. It couldn't have come any easier. Rosas, in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, asked UFC President Dana White for a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus so he can buy his mom a minivan so she can drive him to the UFC Performance Institute (which he was indeed later awarded). You can't make it up. Rosas is legitimately one of the brightest prospects in the history of the sport, so keep an eye on him as the calendar turns towards 2023.
Set to debut against Perrin

Youngest-ever addition to UFC at 17
BantamweightUFC

Rosas Jr. defeated Mando Gutierrez via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract and becomes the youngest-ever contracted fighter in UFC history at the age of 17.
ANALYSIS
Many thought UFC President Dana White would instead award Rosas a developmental deal given his age and the fact he didn't get the finish, but White was ultimately impressed enough to give him an opportunity at the highest level of MMA. Rosas certainly doesn't have the physique of your typical 17-year-old, and his grappling ability appears to already be far beyond that of many UFC veterans. He faced another grappling specialist in the 25-year-old Gutierrez, and while he only was credited with 20 significant strikes on the night, Rosas did pick up an impressive 11:55 worth of control time. The two fighters were tied together for essentially the entirety of the bout, and Rosas used slick transitions to maintain dominant position in a relatively mistake-free fight that ended up sweeping the judges' scorecards. It will be an interesting experiment to see how he fares against veteran strikers with commendable takedown defense, but that's an area he has plenty of time to develop, and White certainly didn't want to risk Rosas falling into the hands of another promotion.
